Well here it is guys, it was requested and sounded like a great idea so we brought it to ya! Since I regularly off road/beat on my CTD it was a natural for me to moderate the forum.

Mostly I'm a dune runner but I've also taken it rock crawling in the mountains, took it mudding once (man did it take FOREVER to clean it up after that!), and take it down two tracks all the time during hunting season.

So how many other off roader's do we have out there? Here's a couple of pics of my truck on the dunes (as well as my friend John West's):

Guess I will make the first reply. Guys, offroading with your CTD is a blast! Just watch out for those deep mud ruts... right Steve? :D I have been off the beaten path a time or two, and havnt gotten stuck... . yet.

Cheers

Tualmine River near Yosemite

Took mine down a glorified goat trail aptly named JAWBONE- 4wd lo, 1st. gear and still was on the brakes at times. This is the rafting access route for the river. Also went playin' around the Hetch Hetchy Dam power line towers and fire roads. ABS doesn't work while airborne and sucks in the landing. Any quick disconnect of the ABS when off-roading??? All the fun you want for the price of diesel. Fishing is pretty good too.

Finally a place to post about off-roading!

I Went to Moab and was doing some rock crawling and I went down a bump called baby lion back. ( a hill like the reg one but smaller) anyway, the "back" was steep enough to make 2 quarts spill out the vent tube on the front. Made a mess. I want to find a way to move the vent to the rear of the valve cover or use the airsep system to source the vapors from the valve cover and cap off the front tube.

I agree that mudding is not fun to clean. I would like to get quick disconnect for the rear sway bar so I get more flex.

I have the Rancho RSX shocks, they adjust the dampening as the road changes.

1st Time out on the trial...STUCK!!

Took my new 02' out for the inagural 4x4 in action experience. Place I've been to plenty of times during duck season. Road is more or less muddy with big ruts from big tires 37+ in. First mud hole I went through got stuck. So much for LSD and 4Hi with these Michillens, buddy pulled me out with his TJ. He was floored that he got to pull me out for a change. Wish I had put my winch on that day. I should have known better than to go in the mud with Hwy type tires. 1st thing to upgrade for off-road action on my truck is new shocks... RS9000's on the way.

Steve, I would like to say thank you for setting up this section. I do not wheel my Dodge off-road except for driving to work during the winter. I have my old trusty 80 CJ-5 for that purpose and the Dodge to get it there. I will be running the Rubicon Trail from Lake Tahoe to Georgetown starting on June 27th and ending on June 30th, man I can't wait.

Like DHatfield said, Thanks for this section Steve, now another reason not to leave my chair.

I just hope we don't get any "How do I know if my truck is 4-wheel drive" or " How do I shift into 4-low" type 'o questions. ;)

Later, Rob

Thanks Steve!!!!!!!

4-wheeling in CO is kind of tough right now due to the fires. I'm looking forward to seeing what others are up to with these beasts!!!!

Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

we bought ours to tow our beach house out onto the beach.

Smiths Point Ny, South Shore of Long Island.

7 miles out.

$ 15 a night, just across the inlet, in the Hamptons, they pay almost $1K night for the same view.

I put it in 4-low once... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... because there are some nasty speed bumps in the parking lot at Smith's... . :D :-laf :-laf

sounds like your one of the reasons I always carry the ole '45. And I make sure I'm cleaning it when the boys come to the door.

Reminds me of when the cats and dogs go into heat.

The two gals are : my daughter and her friend - under age.

My wife hides when the camera is out. . but always wants pix with the kids in them. This is one of my wife's favoriate camp pix.

Smith's was great untill last year, new guy in control of that park and he doesnt see why we want to camp on the beach or even under stand how we do it.

Before he took control several campers and trucks were lost each year to flip overs from drivers that dont know how to tow offroad or understand how to drive the soft stuff (with or without a trailer) ( and I'm not talking off camber either, which to get out where this picture was taking-well lets say... thats' why it never got crowded even during the day) .

And some don't, I've pulled out enough of them to know that there are idiots out there. . They should institute a driving test to obtain the permit. Big fines for not airing down... .

So now they wont let us go past the 1st two miles and they stack and pack the trailers in like a parking lot and limit the camping to one flat area.

We head out to the end of the Island, Montauk by the Light House. Which is getting crowded and murder getting through the Hampton traffic. Don't know if I'll bother this year. New job, cant get 3 day weekends the 1st year I'm there.

Any way sorry for the long post, but the freekin idiots are what cost us our favoriate camping spot... . so it's a sore point for me.

Great Forum Steve. . Thanks. We do some occasional 4-wheeling with the neighbors on some of the properties down in Carrollton. One of the neighbors belongs to a 4wd-off road club, and he has a nice layout on his property. One mud hole is only about 20-25 feet across, but almost nothing gets through. Atv's, bikes, and some trucks with44's have been stuck. We also go on the back of my property on the "pipeline, which has a nice hill on it with a natural spring. Unless you've got a good set of mud tires, you won't make it up. Playing back there last year we had two Dodges stuck big time. Couldn't pull them out with a L Series Kubota, had to get the neighbors BIG Ford tractor to get 'em out. That was hard for those 2 guys to live down, being pulled out by a Ford. No real trashing of vehicles, just a lot of fun.

Well I bought a 4x4 because I always end up in a situation where I'm gonna need it. Plus I couldn't stand to own big truck (or any for that matter) that wasn't 4x4.

My CTD does NOT go off roading. I'm building a 79 Chevy 3/4 Ton for that. Has a reworked 355, SM465, (factory axles) Dana 44 up front, Corp. 14 Bolt Full Floater rear. As soon as I finish rebuilding the back brakes its getting a 6" suspension lift and 36-38" Super Swampers.

A lot of people ask me why I wanted a 4x4 if I don't take it "off road. " I live on what you might call a a farm. We have plenty of work to do around here, and it requires a 4x4. So I usually tell 'em to shut up its what I wanted. :-laf
