Is there much difference between Blackstone and the Fleetguard kit Geno's sells????
I ordered the Fleetguard when I ordered my filters..

Thanks guys, this is the first time I have ran one of my trucks to 16k on an oil change and it is the first change. So I am curious on how the oil held up.

If this is the initial oil fill when new, your report will most likely come back scary. It will have all the metal from the break in period and have some pretty wacky numbers. Skip the analysis on this oil change and do it next time.

Well that makes sense, guess I will wait. Truck has been in the shop for a week now, trying to get it all finished up before the bad weather starts.

Just received an oil sample report back from Blackstone on my 2014 3500 dually (attached). Everything is looking good with numbers trending in the right direction.

The differences seen on calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and barium come from using different brands of oil.

John, good report and thanks for sharing. It is an interesting report in that you have prior references for comparison.

Was also interesting to note the viscosity comparison between changes and the copper numbers as they pointed out. Have you used Shell Rotella T 15W/40 in all your changes?

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

The first test was of the oil filled at the Cummins factory... Valvoline Premium Blue synthetic I believe.

The oil on the next two tests should've been Shell Rotella-T... at least that's what the Chrysler dealerships told me they were using where I had the oil changed.

I just did the latest oil change by myself (not yet analyzed of course) and I also used Shell Rotella-T.

Having said that, going forward I'll use any regular (non-synthetic) major-brand diesel oil which happens to be on sale at the time I go shopping for it. Typically that ends up being Shell Rotella-T or Chevron Delo.

Best regards,

John L.
