I sure wouldn't listen to the overhead on when to get your oil changed. I changed mine once then 150 miles later it told me to change it again. Just go by what the manual says and I think all will be fine.

I have 7000 miles on mine and not had it tell me yet, but I did change it at 5000 but did not reset it. I think it is a hoax, as was stated I think that Jiffy Lube is sponsoring it!!!

CourierDog, Can you post the oil analysis results you have? I too have concerns on the amount of soot in this oil, interesting on the heat aspect lowering viscosity very quickly.

Thanks, Luke

Oil change

The first oil change light was at 2135 but as it was new I had dealer do it. 2nd light was at 5574 and it had been 3 months and since I do a lot of town driving I let the dealer do it. 3rd was 7800 but i was leaving for a 4 week trip with the 37' sportster with everything including the "kitchen sink" in it so I let the dealer do it AND change the fuel filter (that won't happen again):{and did an oil analysis . Around 2300 miles into the trip I got the message and reset it. I drove 4000 miles and used 381 gal of fuel. That is 90% pulling and 10% truck only, as I had my Electra Glide and rode it every chance. Oh yea that comes out to 10. 5 mpg and that was running 70 and 75. In Texas there are LONG stretches of 4 lane highway and you can test speed vs mileage. I used the overhead as reference,

I would reset it and then run 50 miles at 62 then reset it and run 68 ect. I got . 4 yep 4/10ths mpg better at 62 than at 68 there was NO difference between 68 and 72. I tried tow/haul off and on ex brake off and on with no difference. I have 3. 73's so 70 is 1780 rpm 63 is 1600. I did this both going south and coming back north. What else is there to do on 59! When I got home I had the oil changed again at 12000 with the next change at 15500 and another oil analysis, after that I will start using synthetic and stretching the changes to 6k or 7k. By the way fuel was pretty constant at $3. 15 per gal going right after Christmas and $3. 11 coming back 4 weeks later until we got to Indiana and then it was $3. 39 !!!! At least Jesse James wore a mask. Sorry to make it so long

I couldn't stand it..... changed oil @ 75 hours. I'll do it again @ 200 hours, again @ 350 and once more @ 500 hours. Then I'll move to 2500 drains. Oil is sooooo much cheaper than anything in the engine.

I use Amsoil 15w40 100% synthetic in my 3 other cummins 5. 9's and change every 10k, I also do regular oil analysis and find my oil still has enough integrity to serve another 10k interval. My 6. 7 is sooted up after 2k I will not put Amsoil in this one until the dealer finds the problem/s and repairs my truck ... The dealer also gives me lifetime free oil changes on this 6. 7 . They are using Mopar brand Dpf rated synthetic diesel oil/ I believe it to be good enough to run 3-5k but I really enjoy not having to change so often using Amsoil products . My 6. 7 displays oil change required approx. every 2k... . I go in get my oil changed for free as well as check engine light cleared and the latest flash and recalls performed and codes cleared etc. check my other posts.
