Oil Filter change
Captaindean,
I do alot of oil changes on the Dodge/Cummins trucks, and I always have oil in the new filter before installing. This task can be done very easily if you remove the flexible air intake hose from the turbo to air box. This allows for easier access to the filter. Then I put oil in the new filter until the oil level in the filter is about an inch below the top. Hold onto the bottom of the filter with the right hand and place it in position, then turn the filter with both hands to get it started on the threads. Once it gets started on the threads it is easily tightened. Do not over tighten the filter! I allow the filter to make contact with the flange, then tighten till it will not turn anymore. Then back it off just a little just to make sure the gasket didn't wrinkle. Oh. and by all means, put a little grease on the rubber gasket before the install.
By filling the new oil filter before installing, the oil pressure comes up much faster when engine is started. I never have spilled oil using this procedure. Just be a little carefull when getting the new filter into position.
My . 02 worth.
Best regards,
Wayne
