Has anyone tried the Oil Drain Valve, Catalog No. FTP0901 listed in the latest Geno's Garage Catalog?

I do my own oil changes which would make it easier. No hot oil on my hands!!(I do wear chemical handling gloves)

I can remember some discussion on the F**d site a while back. Their site is so S-L-O-W, I don't care to go over there and look. Also the maker of this valve has a web site, but I can't remember their name(old age getting me).

I haven't noticed the latest issue but what I noticed about the picture in older issues is it doesn't look like it will allow all the oil to drain out. It looks like the tube sticks up into the pan. Also the Cummins pan has a dimple where the drain plug is located. I like a pan thet has the drain plug at the lowest point of the pan. I just believe more sludge is left in pan when draining. Like others have said; my $. 02 worth.

Bill, I got mine @ Dieselfest in Longbeach. Installed it at 1st oil chg. Will be doing the oil chg this weekend (15k). I added a couple of fiber washers to it so the lever would be facing the rear of the eng. (didnt want it to "accidently" open from road trash).
Hope it works, but ifn I gots any news either way, will post to this tread. If anyone wants any other info - E-Mail me.

No help here Bill, but I am considering the item. I have not called Geno's but wonder what safety item will keep the plug from coming open off road. Is there a detent in the lever? Will all of the oil drain from the pan? Questions, Questions.

I notice Geno's offers two types of quick-drain oil plugs now. I got the original which mounts flush with the oil pan, is spring loaded to close, has a nice flat screw-on brass dirt cover and has an auxilary screw in opener and hose (and comes from Holland of all places). Installed it last oil change. Haven't tried it yet but will soon. FWIW it hasn't leaked and nothing brusing up against it can accidently open the valve.

It will probably leave a little oil in the pan during a change due to the raised edge of the fitting, but the "oil experts" who have supposedly been running 80,000 to 100,000 miles between oil changes don't seem to worried about it so I guess I won't either.

I just ordered one of those new style drain plugs from geno's. I intend to cut a slot in the threads so that all the oil will drain out. It seems to me to make sense to orient the lever towards the rear to minimize the chances of it being knocked open.

I saw the new drain plug from geno`s too. I had ordered the old one( with the green tube) but sent it back. Did not like the small hex sealing surface. My biggest concern about these plugs is they block those square drain holes in the bottom of the pan plug port. Do you guys know what I mean?. Oil needs to empty thru those square holes. If they are blocked, alot of oil will remain in the pan. (IMO). All these drain plugs block the square ports. I like the idea of cutting a slot in the drain plug to line up with the ports. This is one of the reasons I don`t have a permanent drain plug yet. I like to get ALL the old oil out @ change time. #ad

Hey Chaw,

I ordered the drain valve from Geno's. Yes it does have a detent to keep it from opening accidently and draining the pan. I did read that much on the Phord site a while back. There was a www address for the manufacturer on the Phord site and at the time I did look at it. Don't remember the address--slept last night!!!

I do think I'll do what radixr is going to do to his. Don't know about the notch until I see it, but I will orient it to the rear. If you look at the inside of most stamped steel oil pans, they have a reinforcement spot welded on the inside of the pan that prevents the complete draining. I haven't seen the inside of a Cummins pan--shoulda' looked when I was at Columbus last year!!!

Finally gots the oil changed. Worked like a dream - no fuss no mess. Just put the pan under and "flipped" the lever. When closing the lever had no problem and no hot oil running all over as before. Like the drain and would use it on all my engines from now on. Just my 0. 02$ worth.

I also got my drain plug at the Long Beach Diesel Fest... .....
I think it is cool. It has allready gone thru some unusual punishment and is sitting there ready for the next oil change... I wish I could say that for the rest of the parts of the truck that came into contact with huge rocks and debri that happened to get run over in a days extravaganza (another story)!!!!!!!
I am not an oil nut, I just change it very regularly with Shell ROTELLA T @ $30 a case (24 qt) at Sams Club.
