Oil filter brand Cummins? Mopar?

Hi Guys will be doing first oil change on the beast . Should I be using the cummins stratapore or mopar? Who makes the mopar filters? Thanks. Hope this doesn't stir up a hornets nest.

comrade - i would buy a fleetguard from genos garage. the mopar filter is paper element. the fleetguard is synthetic. cheers sir!

Another DBL7349 user.....the flow rates on those are extremely good. Worked well on my previous 2014 RAM 3500 through 362k miles and the current 2018 RAM 4500 seems happy with them through 325k miles.

MOPAR is a cellulose FleetGuard. I would NOT use.

FleetGuard is good but Donaldson is better. Donaldson and AMZ/OIL’s filter are the same.

FleetGuard is now made in Mexico. Donaldson twins USA.

Donaldson DBL7349 Nanofiber Synthetic- 20um @ 100%, 15um @ 98.7%

I have several Fleetgaurd Stratapore filters OH in my cabinet left over from the 04.. I assume I can use them on the 20' but not worth risking a warranty "argument" over it... thoughts.. I am going to change first time oil/dsl filters in June at likely around 6k miles right before I leave for MT..

The ISB filter did not change at all. The same filter covers MY 1989-2021.

yeah... that was my concern, I probably can't "bulk buy" anymore...

So if I understand right... I need to go to Geno's and buy an new filter "EVERY TIME" I do a service? I cannot stock them on my shelf (as I always have) like the dealer does? No argument here.. just clarification for me and any one else reading this post with a MAXCARE and new truck warranty what the expectation is when something goes south (like a CP4.2 might? ) . I have never had a new truck in my life..... so never worried too much about it. But now "dotting "I' and crossing "T" are a thing.

Maybe I'll keep-em for later on down the road.

I would argue there are other ways to prove timely service intervals. Hand written service records in a notebook, writing the date on the new filter and taking a picture of it on your phone (time stamp), etc. Using top tier filters like Fleetguard, Donaldson, etc are also feathers in your cap should the need ever arise.

I’ll bet one could reprint one invoice, with say a purchase of three filters, and document the date, miles, and engine hours for each oil filter used on the single invoice....and be golden.

I’ve actually documented date, mileage, idle hours, and drive hours on my filter box tops and/or labels that have the part number or UPC number on them.

Fleetguard makes the oem filter, and even the base oem filter is approved by FCA for the 15K change interval, keeping the warranty intact.
So, any filter that at least meets that minimum standard is good enough for FCA to maintain warranty, and that is IF they were to ever ask you to prove what maintenance you did.
For both of my major warranty repairs done on the engine in my truck, never ONCE was I asked to prove any maintenance that had been done.
And, I always buy my filters in quantity, never buy one at a time.
And, for the last 12 oil changes(180,000+/- miles), I have been using the LF16035 stratopore fleetguard filter.

@p-Bar, No reason you can't buy in bulk. Just do as myself and others have done, start a binder to keep receipts and maintenance records in. Then when you do your maintenance, log date, mileage and engine hours. That way you have the receipt for filters and other info needed to prove changes. I was never asked for info when having rr main and adapter plate seal and oil pan gasket done. I mentioned that I had binder with records if needed. Buy in bulk to save some coin and have on hand for your schedule. Enjoy your new "toy"! Enjoy these trucks!

As many others do I buy my filters in bulk and only use the DBL7349.

I document my changes in my log, but an oil related failure is between extremely rare and non-existent on these motors. Closer to non-existent with top tier oil/filters.

On a side note, fuel filters appear to be going through the roof. On the website I linked above the FS53000 is priced at $52 each and go down from there the more you purchase, but I have seen other websites selling them for over $70 each

Same filter, I would use them up.

Take pics of the box and plastic wrap around the filter, your pic will be dated.

I usually am over 15k at 60 mo so I do a Blackstone Report on every change for warranty sake.

Thanks guys . I have a bound record book . Like the idea of tearing the tags off the boxes and recording too. I'm not worried about buying bulk. Any other manufacterers for the fuel filters?

Stick to the oem MOPAR fuel filters or the Fleetguard.
