Leaking oil pretty good. From the looks of it, its coming from the front seal. Anybody changed the seal? How hard or easy is it?

Thanks, Karl

I changed my front seal last May while checking for KDP. The vibration dampener does not require a puller. Just remove the crankshaft snout bolts and the dampener slips off. Then remove the timing cover. While you have the cover off, you should check your dowel pin and take care of it (if necessary). I purchased my replacement seal from Cummins (around $32). Instructions come with the seal kit. It is imperative that this seal be installed DRY. Dry seal on a dry shaft. It is not difficult, but it does take a bit of time.

I have had a small leak for awhile now and finally got around to taking it to the dealer last week. They put dye in the oil and found 3 leaks, oil pan, timing cover, and front crank seal. My truck is still under warranty so i did'nt fix it but you might want to check it all. Mine wasn't a big spot but after running the truck around 100 miles it would leave a couple of dollar coin size drops.

Not that big (KDP). I would say about 3 quarts in 5500 miles. And I am sure some went away via use and so on. Its got 203,000 on it and I work it pretty hard. I am going to clean with a pressure washer either when I am back down south for day or when the below zero weather leaves IL. That way I can see just where it comes from.

It might be the vacuum pump seal, just ahead of the power steering pump. Just thought I would throw that in as a possibility, as mine has been leaking there for a few months now. Mike

Well if you are that sure that its coming from the front seal I am sure you eliminated the oil pan gasket. Just a thought.
