oil relocation kit

Hi All. Just pick up my 2021 3500 4x4 Laramie that I ordered in December. Awesome truck.
Looking at the oil filter...looks like a pain to remove without making a mess. I have used the Zip Lock Bag method in the past so this might be an option.
I was looking at the PacBrake oil filter relocation kit. Looks well built but a lot of $$
Any other options available??

Cummins makes an oil cooler designed for a remote filter, but likely not cheap.

Honestly, it’s not a hard change for a 12 month/15K mile interval.

Really not hard at all been doing for few years, the first one you remove the Cummins Gorilla installed, after that very easy job!

Simply remove air intake all of a couple minutes. Remove filter from top. E Z PEE Z

There is a screw in filter cap you can get that makes it easy to get the access hole without spilling. Or zip lock bag.

I don't know if the 2021 is as easy to remove the air intake tract as the older ones...

The O/F plug that Geno's sells makes for an easy oil change. I was using this prior to adding a remote/bypass O/F setup. With the plug, it allows you to seal filter and turn sideways to remove, then fill new filter and seal. I had enough room to remove through cutout of fender liner. Never tried the top removal method but see that as a good option also. The main reason I went plug versus the bag was the handle made into the screw in plug. Enjoy that TRUCK!!! JM2C

I would highly reconsider doing so. Jacking around with the lubrication system could certainly increase your chances of a warranty rejection in the event of a claim.

What is your anticipated annual mileage?

Thanks for the tips. I messed up on my post title by not adding the word "filter" --- "oil filter relocation kit"

I like the idea about the filter plug. Also, good advise on NOT adding the kit regarding warranty.

I was thinking along the the line that the PacBrake is $$$. but looks well made. And the fact that I may only drive 10K to 15K miles a year...it should not be a big deal following the great advise from everyone.
I think the "Change oil" notice said 10K miles. I will have to look in the manual.
I will look at the air box regarding removal. I was not hard on my '06 to take it off.
The one thing I like is the CP3 pump. I was worries I might have the CP4!!

I crawled under the truck yesterday (only had it a couple days) and noticed how nice these trucks are. This truck rides better empty than my 2500 '06 did!!

Get the Geno filter plug..been using it for 4years. Just changed oil yesterday..bout 3 minutes to change filter thru wheel well

OP do a search for this, you will see how easy if your truck is similar it is to change from the top. No special tools required. also gives you a chance to check on the turbo. I also found a boost hose that was about to blow by doing the from the top change. Zero cost to do this method.

I have the Amsoil dual oil filter on my 04.5 . I will be selling the truck wondering if I should take it off and install on the 2018. Where are guys mounting them. I had a machinist make me the threaded adapter so i can run the Cummins filter.

Honestly p-Bar I do not believe a bypass system is necessary on the ISB's. Simply put they are "easy" on oil. I have many UOA's from my gen 2 which had a bypass filter, they are very comparable to my 14 without.

My 05 had a bypass and my 18 doesn’t, and I don’t plan to add one. I just don’t think there was a tangible benefit to it. The 18 is also easier on the oil than the 05.

Changing the oil filter is easy compared to the fuel filters the top one you need about 18" in extensions a universal and a 29 mm socket .Go from the top . Barely any room to work in a PIA ! The filter underneath which the engineers put right over the drive shaft is a joy . went from a simple spin on to a cartridge , More fun. The petcock does not drain the housing completely , be sure you have something to catch the rest in the housing . Genos sells nice billet aluminum cap for the top filter housing . Makes it much easier to remove than the factory plastic lid . I found when you turn the key on to fill the filters look at that time to see if they are leaking past the O ring . Much cleaner than starting it and finding out the hard way. As others have said buy a cap to screw into your oil filter much easier than the baggy . Thank god it is only once a year on average .

So.....they changed the size of the nut on the underhood canister lid from 28 mm?
