I bet it does hurt resale. Thats already been posted many moons ago. A member declaired that until he put it up for sale and when he said S/B he got OH well thanks.

Its your opinion. One guy's experience does not make for a trend. I personnally would pass on a new or used vehicle if it had a long bed. I dread the day I want to move to a dually and its my only choice.

With the S/B, it's really nice not hitting curbs when going around corners and getting into and around those tight parking lots. I never drove a S/B '01, but my '03 S/B truck handles mighty fine for a tall vehicle. The S/B feels like a much smaller truck (from my old '01 L/B), and it seems easier to back up a 5th wheel with it. I had a L/B '01 and miss the room in the box, especially with a tool box in the back and carrying an ATV. But tooling around town, the S/B gives the truck more of a large car feel, instead of a long pickup feel. The main reason I got the S/B was that the new L/B wouldn't fit in garage, otherwise I would have ordered a L/B. But I'm really glad I got the S/B. My biggest complaint about the '03's is that my rear tires are wearing out faster, 'cause it's much easier to burn the RUBBER!

I buy short bed trucks and always will. Got my Rihno lined chest type Weather Guard tool box in the bed full of tools. Got some stuff in the back like a bumper jack, chains and the seasonal stuff. Perfect. I've gotta get in and out of tight spots on the farm all the time. Bigger longer truck means I run over more of my crop when checking irrigation wells. I run around empty most of the time. But when I do pull, I pull heavy and need to me able to pull it into the field too. We are talking 16,000# of fertilizer, or 12,000# of seed. I need a diesel, I need big tires, and I need a short bed. Can't think of any farmers that I know of in my area that drive long bed trucks.

Never seen a rancher or farmer or construction company etc. THAT every drove a s/b! I know quite a few Ranchers in Neb/Wyo. Mont. Etc. No one around her does except deer hunters and 1500 series trucks everthing else is eaither a flat bed or a long bed. :-{} MERRY CHRISTMAS

Wow. Me and the wife are putting our heads together and can't think of a long bed farmer. Only a hand full of use drive Dodges. Most of the guys around here drive a crew cab short bed PSD, and the chevys are in 2nd place. I'll have to send you a picture of the coffee shop parking lot. I don't do the whole coffee shop thing, I've got better things to do, but my Dad goes every morning. My dad farms out of a TOYOTA super cab short bed!!!??? We have tried to get him into a real truck, but he says they are just too tall.

Of course you have the local irrigation and tractor service trucks, single cab with a utility bed. My buddy has an 03 quad cab long bed 4x4 for his irrigation repair business, but he ripped off the bed and put a utility bed on it. Very few long beds around, utility bed trucks don't count as a long bed trucks IMO. We see 2wd long beds and dual wheel trucks drive through town with their travel trailers all the time, but they are just passing through.

Not all short bed owners wish they had a long bed, and people really do work out of a short bed truck. That's my only point. In our parts, we have trailers. ;) I have 3 different ones to choose from. :D And my wife drives a yukon, the short one. :D

Ok, thought of a long bed quad cab truck, my brother in law. But he's not a farmer, he builds cabinets and does small building projects, carports, garages, etc...

WE see VERY few working out of S/B and some comment wish they had bought a long. Differant parts of the country maybe. My ranch friends out west ALL drive L/B mostly duallys but not all and lots of 4x4. Even the trucks used to put out range cubes and round bales etc. seems their teenge kids drive S/B with loud mufflers and radios.

Looks like a new war!!!!!!!!!

We have the Oil Wars...

Then came the Auto vs Manual transmission Wars,

Then the Auto transmission Wars and not to be overlooked...

The Clutch Wars for us manual transmission folks...

Now, just in time for the Holidaze we have... ... .

BED WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carry on, ladies & gents, and remember the Marquis of Queensbury rules DO apply! :D

SORRY. No more comments on bed size. I stated how I felt. Waste of a good power plant. Even older guys here saw my NEW truck and said it aint't one of those short things is it?:)

96 LWB for 04 SWB

Traded for the SWB and love it so far. No doubt there will be a few times when the LWB would be better, but with my use very few. I think IMO that the shorty looks way better and that alone will sell the truck.

personally,i would not have a truck without an exhaust brake... . im on my 5th CTD,the first 4 were auto... and brake pads lasted about 35k MAX... . my current truck is a 6speed,and i changed pads for the FIRST TIME at 85k... and STILL had a little more to go..... so,aside form slowing down your camper safely... you WILL extend the life of your service brakes CONSIDERABLY... but,to each his own!!... have fun... . tom;)

... oh yea, LONG BED ONLY

I have a fifth wheel so a longbed was the only option for me, I didn't want a special hitch, Also I haul dirtbikes and can't stand not being able to close the tailgate. No offense to anyone but if you plan on using the truck for hauling like a truck is designed , There is only one option. LB :-{}

OH YAH, I ALMOST FORGOT About the trans, I am very pleased with the 48re, In all honesty a 6 speed would be fun and put alot more power to the ground but it sure is nice to just put it gear and go. I am sure this new trans will be alot better than some of the earlier ones. I would love to put a better torque converter in it but don't really want to work on my new truck and void the trans warranty while I am at it.
