I spent all weekend with Jason from Quadzilla Performance fabbing my twins .

All I can say is :--):--):--):--)

It's an HX3512 and a HT3B. the only STOCK parts modified...

disabled stock wastedgate.

1 heater hose

1 oil drain.

Tapped an existing hole for the HT3B drain.

I added an ats manifold, 5" turbo to tail:cool:

There's too much to tell. lots and lots of quick cool boost. I gotta go fix a few loose ends but.....

I'll be back later to give more info.

I remade the boost hoses and boots on the passenger side this evening. the hoses are poping off the pass side while reading a rising 55-60 psi on the drivers side(after the intercooler).

get this. . it does it in 3rd and 4th gears:--):D:D:D:D below 2500rpm

Kat,

The batteries have been in the back of the truck for a while:)

The idea was to do it as a bolt on... so far the only irreversable mod was a tack wels on the HX35 wastegate.

Its very quiet in the cab. . I like it a lot. The 5" exhaust:cool: sounds incredible.

I need to ge the hoses to stay on for a while. power is up incredibly. It's like having the second stage of nitrous on all the time.

I'll be back later,

Mark

The HT3B is a stock off the shelf turbo for the N14 cummins. I got it at TruckPro. PN 198600 I think. . might be 196800, I'll have to check later.

I dunno what sixe the housing is but it seems to spool well.

I'll try the adhesive or hairspray this evening.

Why would I want to try the smaller housing? I really like the way it spools now and can slow it down by openning the wastegate earlier. Explain to me your spin on this. . maybe I'll change my mind.

Thanks,

Mark

What's with the aluminum catch can with Stant cap that is right where the passenger side battery used to be?

I see that you're still running the OEM coolant overflow.....

fess up! :)

Just a little water;):D

Well fellas... .

I finally went without a blowoff last night. I need to get some 3. 5" t bar clamps. the connecting tube starts whistling at 50+psi.

I make 50 psi very quickly with nothing but a timing box and injectors. with the fms on I make 60+. I've been easy on it until I get the new clamps.

with the wastegates mis-set I can only guess at boost pressures but there was enough pressure to clock the compressor housing 30* to pop a hose off. There was enough crank case pressure and vacume behind the airfilter to suck oil through the seals of the big turbo. I suspect that the boost pressure is enough to ensure that the oil in the '35 won't be coming out the front of the turbo:D

I have to say the oil scared me enough to tear them down and check it out. I really thought I had lost a turbo. HVAC and Don Ramer were very helpful in figuring it out. I went ahead and reworked the oil supply lines. I relocated the oil filter using 3/4" JICs and tapped into the reurn line from the filter for the big turbo. I also made a rather primitive bracket to keep the compressor housing from moving and poited the air filter up towards the radiator. I'll get some pictures soon. . probably later today and post them sunday.

EGTs are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY down!!!!!! and lag is all but non existant. I really liked the way it drove (much less lag) with the little turbo running rampant but getting to drive <2min for hours worth of work sucked. I think Quad liked it enough that I bet he tries to shoehorn twins onto an '03 :D:D An hy setup with a tweaked H2E would be killer.

I really can't thank Jason enough for his help and use of facilities. He is a first rate fabricator and a superb welder. The poor guy is peeling from all the torch time spent on my lil' grey mule.

that's all for now. more news as it happens.

Mark- If you need better or stronger band clamps you might want to check with Patrick at SPA. The new clamps he is selling are about twice as wide as the stock clamps and they are 100% stainless steel. I think these would help hold your hoses on. I believe another big twin runner is using them...

John

Are you measureing drive pressure or anything of that nature?

Out of curiosity.

Isn't that a pretty big part of a turbo "equation"?

I haven't been measuring drive pressure. Power is obviously up to say the least and egts dropped by 7-800* at WOT. . I used to see WAY over 1700* . . looked like where 2K would be on the gauge now I have not seen 1200* since the twins were installed.

The clamps on the connectong pipe are worm drivr right now . . that's gonna change in an hour or so. I will keep him in mind in casse what I get proves to be in sufficient. . thanks for the info.

Talked to Mark for a bit today as his Folks live 40 Miles from here so I'll go check it out tomorrow, the clamps J. R. is talking about sound cool but add that to this. On your tubes either roll a bead at the end of the tube or cut a small piece of the same pipe (say 1/2") and weld it onto the end (tig is my choice) then fab tabs(2) on both tubes at 2 different locations if able about 2 to 2 1/2 inches from the ends, drill holes through them and between the tabs add a piece if inside threaded shaft with hyme joints on the ends then bolt it all together with the boots installed and clamped. You get superior holding power and you can easily take it a part. I've done part of this before, but have seen it done allot with the High H. P. blower and turbo cars. Now it has to blow the hose, clamp and pull the tabs off before it will blow the tube off..... extra better carnage.

Jim,

Those things look great. Maybe if I ever get to buy a set of twins from Nowel, he could get something like this. That Banks "Big Hoss" intake looks sweeter and sweeter everytime I see it. :(

Andrew

The ones I discribed about would use metal tab vise the aluminum bungs they are using, the aluminum ones look cooler but would never work on stock pipes and wouldn't hold as well as the tabs. I've seen were guys blew a tube off that used a less than perfect tab and it was dramatic, most of the guys the I see use these rarely see over 30 PSI but that's through a 4" pipe and a 10"x10"x18" liquid to air cooler... ... . lots of air and make 1800+ HP out of 400 cu/in gasser.

Jim

Well I found out why I've been waiting on Turbo's! I'm flat sold on twins..... period end of story! Too much boost, spools too quick and drives too easy. That is the best description of mild to wild I've seen yet, from driving in 6th at 50 MPH to driving in 6th at 120, Mark had it set up easy to begin with making 55 PSI or so with the box off and you could feel the big turbo come in, then the box came on for a run, then the regulator got adjusted a little for the final run____ lbs of boost:D then we turned around and he went through the gears HARD at max boost and RPM, that Southbend is one mean ass clutch as he was slamming my head against the seat at gear changes. So you are wondering (is he really telling us the truth about it) well we did the max run and I never saw EGT's get over 1400 at 120 MPH from a complete stop and there was NO smoke at boost and RPM not even a light haze only at the initial spool-up. I rode in it before (June I think) with a 1600 degree gauge and he had it standing straight up and down and now has bigger injectors. It's scary to think you could use that much power. Oh yea, you need to hear the big turbo while your cruising at 2400 in low gear with the windows downOo.
