Competition DRAG STRIP: What wheels/slick 4x4 combo?

Competition New Dyno Numbers

i am getting ready to purchase a 04. 5 3500 drw 4x4 ctd six speed,4:10's. my ? is i am thinking of getting the laramie package. but was wondering how well the eletronic shift work in 4x4 mode. i have always had manual shifter. except on my h2 which works well. any thoughts would be appreciated.

Dial-a-drive, IMO, is asking for trouble. I just like the fact that you can trust a floor shift more than a gadget.

Why do you want 4:10 gears? Just curious. From what I've heard, unless you're doing a lot of heavy towing, the 4:10 gears will just bring you worse mileage.

HAS YOU SEE FROM SIG I HAVE A LARGE FIVER BUT THE BIGGEST REASON IS I AM ALWAYS HOOKED UP TO A GOOSENECK PULLING EITHER MY TRACTOR OR HAULING MY WORK VANS THAT HAVE BROKE DOWN ON THE ROAD. NOW MIND YA I AM USING THE 3:54 NOW ON MY 99 WITH OUT ANY PROBLEM AND LOVE THAT SET UP. JUST THOUGHT I MIGHT GET A LITTLE EXTRA ZIP WHEN I AM IN THE HILLS. (OKLAHOMA IS NOT THAT FLAT)

I like the extra zip at the traffic light's too!! :p

Do not regret 4. 10's at all in my 99, but I'm curious how the 04. 5 with the added power would help the smaller gears out.

**Not a big fan of 4WD in a button - I like to have the control over my shifting!! My volume button on my steering wheel just fell right out of the socket... ... I'd hate to have some sort of button glitch at the wrong time with 4WD.

but, to each their own

Good luck with the new truck... ... I have that itch starting... I'll be close behind.

Yeah, I'd be seriously considering a new 3rd gen if they made a larger cab. For now, I like my '02. And I wouldn't want to get rid of the '02, I'd just add another CTD to my stable. :)

I have both trucks (4. 10 and 3. 73 gears0 and when they were stock the 4. 10 truck got the same mileage but pulled better without having to downshift on the biggest hills. The 3. 73 truck hauled a backhoe (17,000 lbs) on a Bigtex (7800 lbs) home from San Fransico with ease. 55 mph over the biggest hills. The only difference is the 4. 10 truck can do it in top gear and the 3. 73 need to be 1 to 1. I like driving the 3. 73 better but when it come to a job I now take the 450 HP monster with the 4. 10's. :D
