Well, my old 99 2500 changed hands this week, so now the look for a 4th gen kicks into high gear. Are there any particuliar options that i should look for? Anything that i don't want? I am looking at 2010 and 2011 models. The truck has to be crew cab 4 wheel drive, and i prefer SLT trim or higher. Give me your suggestions. THanks, RandyOo.

I have a 2010 (see sig). I love it. Only thing I would do different is gone for the SLT or Big Horn package over the ST. I didn't realize how much the CAN BUS electrical system would restrict upgrades to certain systems, like the radio. But it is still a Heavy Duty pickup with a Cummins, so I'm happy. :)

Second vote for the Longhorn package! I have a 2011 1500 Laramie as a daily driver for work but there's no comparison to the Longhorn interior. The real leather seats alone are what sold me, compared to the fake leather in a Laramie. The Longhorn has a lot of nice extras that you don't notice until you drive one. Plus almost every option you could want is standard on a Longhorn at a fairly decent combined price.

Depends on if you are towing a heavy load. In that case 4:10 is something to consider (Max Tow if 2012) I really like my new truck, but I do miss the milage I usually got on my 5. 9.

Although I just got it, i love my 2012 longhorn. it's so loaded, it just has everything as standard. i don't have the max tow, and didn't want it with the 4:10 gears. There's plenty of power with the 3:73. i just towed about 400 miles last weekend, and a good portion was on 7% grades, and never wanted for power. My trailer is a 16000 pound horse trailer. so take it from there.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been looking at a couple of Big Horn trucks. I agree that the Longhorn is nice, it's just too far above my budget. I looked at a 2010 Big Horn last night that had 88K miles on it:eek:. I have requested service records and the original owners phone number on that one. I have looked at several SLT's, but i want a little bit more.

My Big Horn came with enough options for me. I really like the UConnect and 30gb hard drive for music. Power rear slider window is nice if you like fresh air, my 2001 never got opened since it was a PITA to get to it. I added a MyGig Lockpick to add the factory rear tailgate handle camera as well as a front camera. It also unlocks the video in motion as well as provides inputs and outputs for monitors, games, etc. A Smarty Jr disables the EGR but leaves the equipment in place for a stock visiual appearance, still debating on a hollow DPF and ME software to get rid of the regen
