I searched thoroughly and tried some of the tips here to no avail. Yes, I have one of the notorious converter lock-up probs. It was only doing it once in a while now its doing it constantly, like really really bad. It only started doing it bad after I took it off cleaned it with electrical spray and separated the wires from the harness and put them in there own loom as recommended from some lads on here. Well since then its been horrible, is it possibly bad? Is it cheap to replace I/ll just slap a new one on.

Secondly I had the transmission rebuilt like 3-4 months ago, never had any probs(except the lock-up issue) till now. I dont think this has to do with the transmission being rebuilt I just wantedt o let you know. Anyhow I just drove last night and for the first time not only was the damn thing kickin in and out of lock-up profusely, at 45-50mph it decided to drop to like second gear all out of the blue for no reason. THe second this happened the trans temp light came on, at first I paniced and just let off the accelerator, then I got Pi**ed and floored it which kicked it back in drive and as soon as it did the trans temp light went out. It happened twice on my way to my friends house and once on the way home. This is a first it never happened b4. The speed sensor has been replaced once about 6 months ago, I knew a mechanic who thought thats what was making the converter kick in and out so he just replaced it. Chance that has gone bad? Im really depressed and desparate I need this truck on the road, any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! thx gents. . :{ :{

Post this question on the DTT web site and also call Bill K he will tell you what is wrong. I understand he will help even thoughs that don't have his transmission. But it sounds like you might want to get one :)

When you put the TPS back on, did you adjust the voltage? These rigs will do all sorts of things if the voltage isn't close. I also second the motion to call Bill K. Best advice so far. Keep us posted.

DITTO..... You have to set the voltage when you remove the TPS..... call Bill to get the proper voltage range.....

Nope did not adjust the voltage. Would the TPS make it actually downshift into second? And whats with the trans temp light that cant be accurate it comes on with the downshift then off when it kicks back in higher gear, sounds electronic to me but what do I know =). Its a 1995 and a local shop did the rebuild, they have a great rep so I went there. Oh yeah how do I get Bills # and what is the DTT the trans site? Thx

You can also do a search and find lots of information on the subject. I believe the voltage should be around 1. 1 to 1. 2 at a no throttle position and should transition smoothly to a higher voltage as the throttle is pushed.

If your trans temp light came on and your trans was not hot change your temp sensor they can get flaky. The easiest way to check this is to drive with a scanner watching the trans temp sensor readings. The trans software is designed to come out of od when it overheats.

The tps voltage spec is 1. 0volts + or - . 2 while maintaining 5. 0 inches on the throttle linkage between the center of the ball stud for cable and the rear face of the bracket

Ok guys heres the rest of this story. I did check the voltage on the TPS, it rang in at . 334 volts. I then tried adjusting accordingly, after rotating the aluminuk bracket as far counterclockwise as I could and taking out the metal dowels in the TPS I could only get . 874 at one time I got . 922 but thats the highest I could get it to go. I drove it and it seemed better didnt kick in and out as much and stopped downshifting its back to just the converter in and out of LU. If that didnt fix the problem with decent voltage does this mean my TPS is bad, its obviously the problem or at least par tof the prob, any thoughts?
