a CAT Dodge????

Once upon a time I read somewhere on this site, someone had posted that your oil should come out looking the same way it went in... ... how true is this? I changed to amsoil 15-40 about 10,000 miles ago. I used their engine flush then added the 15-40. It seems to be a little bit better than it used to be... . I mean the oil stays that nice clear color longer than before i switched... ... Just curious if there might be something wrong or is that just a mark to shoot for?

105,000 miles so far... ... .

One of the functions of engine oil is to suspend and carry away soot formed in the cylinders from the combustion process. Much but not all of this soot it removed by the filter, unless you are using highly efficient bypass filtration I think if your oil doesn't turn black you've got a problem. The soot has to end up somewhere, either in your filter(s) or as sludge in your engine.

Thanks illflem.....
