I know we have several post about the one piece drive lines but I am still confused if there is one that will work for me straight out of the box or will I have to modify one for it to work.

I have a 2003 48re auto quad cab long bed 4x4. I there is one that is plug and play so to speak which one and what part number.

I think this is the route I want to go as I have two u-joints that are bad and need to replace.

$715 is a fair price for a full custom build. The shipping will be the wildcard. If they wan't very much then I'd go with the Dodge shaft and have it shortened and balanced (which is what I did).

Friend of mine bought one from DHD, it was a direct fit, but could never get it balanced. First, it was good up to 65 MPH, then after 3 high-speed balances, the best it can do is the mid seventies before the drone sets in. The truck has the DT setup so it's not the front DS.

He had the original 2 piece shaft HS balanced and reinstalled it and the truck runs smoother than it did when new.

Dog House sells a factory OEM bolt in shaft for the 2003-2004 auto. You only have to go the custom route if you have a 2003-2004 NV5600 6 speed.

I should also add that he tried the DS in another truck, and it had the same vibration problem. That confirms for me that there is something wrong with the DS than can't be corrected by balancing.

When I had my Dodge shaft shortened and balanced the tech explained to me that he spends a lot more time getting the joint perfectly centered than Dodge does. Apparently Dodge feels that if the joint isn't exactly centered, balancing will make up the difference. This may be what people are feeling at higher speeds.
RsCurtis, maybe have the shop break the joints loose (they're glued in) and centered, then balance. If there's something out of balance, they should be able to see it.
