I was looking on www.dodgedieseldatabase (Justin Williams) part and there was a Wix filter for the FASS for $23. 99 claimed to be 2 micron and a direct replacement. Free shipping, anyone use on of these Wix filters?

Chuck E.

That is the 51724 which is actually a 10 micron WIX filter... already researched it... he has it down wrong... the 51202 is $16 at most auto parts stores and is a better filter at 5 microns... there are two on Ebay right now for $10 each.

They state every 30k... but I have read guys that drive by fuel pressure that have gone over 50k per filter change... it would depend on where you get your fuel and whether they filter it or not.

Ok, I saw the 30k recommendation, just seems like a long time. Don't really see why stock fuel filters need changeing every 5-10k and a FASS filter wouldn't. But that is why I have to ask silly questions. I have bought almost all of my diesel from the same local Murphy pump for about a year and half now. I use PS/MMO in every tank. Did not really ever get any bad diesel that I could tell so far. Guess I will get a new filter and just be prepared. I do watch the fuel pressure gauge, so that will be an indicator if before the 30k or so.

Thanks,

John

The FASS filter is a much better filter and rated at a lot higher pressure before breakthrough can occur... IMO, the FASS pump would not be able to push dirt through the filter media... That was the one reason I didn't go with a FASS II, they make enough they could push dirt through the factory filter.

The FASS filters also have about twice the filter media surface area than the factory filter.

THis is a great thread. But now I have to ask what is the micron fuel filter rating for the OEM filter? I think it is the Fleet Guard FS1201???

I believe from what I read, the OEM is 99. 8% efficient (or absolute) at 10 micron... in other words nothing larger than 10 micron will pass... it may trap smaller particals, but I do not know that rating.

I believe the HF6607/BT8509MPG is fairly better, the HF6604 is far better than OEM.

Just FYI, I purchased a couple of BT8509-MPGs, they are the correct filter for the FASS application. And it does cross to the HF6607 which is the 6 micron filter (at 75%).

So the Baldwin BT8509-MPG is another viable filter if you cannot get Fleetguard... the Baldwins cost $50 each.

So after this is all said and done, I now have a lifetime supply of filters... two HF6604s, two BT8509s, and an emergency use Wix 51202 that I keep with me at all times (because it is cheap).

So, I doubt I will post any new info on this thread unless I happen onto something new that slaps me in the face...

I called a Baldwin Tech last week and was told theBT372-10 was a 10 micron

filter and the BT372-MPG was a 4 micron filter which I can buy at a truckparts for $18. 30 a piece. Oo.

I was told just the opposite in an email from Baldwin... the BT37210 is a 5 micron filter, the BT372-MPG is a 10 micron... which is reversed from what you say... I know I posted about the BT8509-MPG being 6 or 7 micron and I confirmed this twice (once email, once phone) with baldwin... the MPG means that it is a glass fiber, and not cellulose, which you would think the BT372-MPG would have the better rating, but... .

So, now we have conflicting info from Baldwin... I already got the BT8509s.

I just read through this whole thread... . really good stuff. Why no mention of the CIM-TEK 3-micron filter? No good? Too expensive?

It is cross referenced to the fleetguard filters. So it will fit.

You can do a dealer search by state or narrower.

Agreed, they are a direct replacement... just not a really easy source for them.

Extremely hard to find?? I never saw anyone listing them... see them on eBay, but not the right ones for our application...
