I wen't down to my local Fleetpride and the Donaldson part# M090544 crossed over to a Fleetpride part# M4490. This thing is huge! It has no drone @ highway speeds but a real nice "airy" sound @ idle. I love this muffler.

Did you ever get your tires? Hope this helps, John

John,

Nice to hear from you man. Got my tires and they look great, but man they're a lot rougher than the stock tires. Oh well, that's what happens when you are only concerned with looks :D

Did you put the muffler on yourself or have them do it?

Is this the 4" inlet - 51" long donaldson I alway see people talk about??

What does that thing run $$-wise if you don't mind the asking??

I have been considering buying one myself... must be getting too old.

I did the M090544 on my 03 and liked it. I also did their "Silent Partner" that was a 5" in & out (51") and the drone was horrible! Stay away from that one.

My 05 is still stock and if I was to change I would be tempted to try the Rok muffler as he claims is more quiet along with more flow than the big 51" Donaldson.

I've been doing a little reading and I keep reading that the Donaldson has a baffle in it. I'm wondering how the baffles effects flow? I've also been reading that the Nelson 86131M is basically the same muffler w/o the baffle? Choices, choices.....

Depends on what your after. Flow (CFM) specs are the same for both and the muffler is well over size for little 5. 9.

I would imagine the baffle is a little more quiet than straight through.

How much $$ do these run???

I called a local place and the guy told me $85 for the Donaldson. I was just doing a little research at the time so I didn't prod him any more to see if I could get it a little cheaper.

I wish someone would chime in on where to buy and how much also... ...

I have run my 51" Donaldson for about 120,000 miles. It has been great. Seems a little throatier at idle but very nice. Going down the road it might be quieter than stock. I only notice it if the passenger window is down and I can bounce it off of a guardrail, bridge abutment, dead Ford parked along the roadside, Duramax trying to get up the hill, etc. Then it sounds like a Peterbilt getting some work done! When you ask for power, you can hear it growl a little. I love it. The perfect combo of enough sound without being bothersome.

Mine was $90. You can get them from just about any bigrig parts place. If they don't have it, they could order it in. Mine has the baffle. I just didn't want to risk having the drone.

APD, have you considered the Silent Might muffler from ROKK Teck? Mark

Yes I have, but the cost of the Rokktech is a little pricey. Not to say it isn't a quality muffler because I'm sure it is..... I just don't know if the increased price tag will equate to that much of a better performer than the Donaldson.

Steved,

I just called my local Fleetpride delaer and they ordered in the Fleetpride #M4490 (Donaldson but labeled a Fleetpride) and it was $63 + $15 shipping, so $78 total. Hard to beat that.

Ooooppps... I just called and asked for a 8613M... I missed a "1" in there... I called her back for this info!!!

The direct Nelson replacement that crossed to the M090544 is a Nelson 86108 for $78. 50. It is a 4" in/out, centered on the body, 44. 5" long, 9" diameter, and 51" overall. It is capable of 1600CFM at 3HTH (whatever an HTH unit is) and 1300CFM at 2HTH.

The 86131M is IDENTICAL IN EVERY DIMENSION except that it will flow 2000CFM at 3HTH and 1800CFM and 2HTH. It costs $84. 71.

I want quiet, but I also want max flow... decisions, decision, decisions... I wonder how much louder the 86131 is than the 86108?????

I had my whole sysytem changed... 2004 Dually... 4" all the way and very little bends withthe BIG Donaldson. It is fine and no noise on road and a throaty nice sound at idle and up to about 1750 then it is gone... love it! Also put on cold Air package from http://psmbuick.com/products.asp. they work together really well!
