Why Do Dogs Do Strange Things?

California

From the California vehicle code:

27602. No person shall drive a motor vehicle which is equipped with a television receiver, screen, or other means of visually receiving a television broadcast which is located in the motor vehicle at any point forward of the back of the driver's seat, or which is visible to the driver while operating the motor vehicle.

I wouldn't want to argue that a DVD player is not a television receiver.

Laws is a contraction to what they were originally called, Public Safety Laws. They were meant to safeguard the public from other's stupidity...

The problem is deep. For some reason motor vehicle operation has degraded from a privilege to a right. States have to bend over backward to make sure everyone can get an operator's license.

Our biggest motor vehicle problem is still alcohol. How many impaired drivers do we have on the road? How many habitual offenders do we have on the road? Why doesn't the three strike law apply here? We're back to the motor vehicle operation has degraded from a privilege to a right.

Think about it. .

Amen John,

All you have to do is serve on a felony druck driving manslaughter case just once to turn your stomach! I was on once where a drunk killed one woman and maimed another for life. Really grim.

Joe & John you guys seem to get it. I don't care what laws have to passed, enforced or objects made illegal to save a life. You can't outlaw stupidity , that is for sure. (And even if you did, there isn't enough room in the jails!!:D ) Bottom line is, at 30mph, and not paying attention, this story could have easily made the 5 o'clock as a fatal. Very easily could he have nailed a pedestrian mother and child, run a red and t-boned another vehicle... ... . Remember this was in moderate traffic, in the city, on surface streets. They need to be much more strict on enforcing vehicle codes, and consider impounding the offending vehicles and revoking licenses. As was pointed out- people seem to forget that driving is a priviledge not a right.

So how do we regulated stupidity you ask?

battery cables a wet floor and a VERY LARGE battery! Hook em up to the most sensitive body parts you can find... . 100% cure rate for stupid!

Can't outlaw stupid drivers - cell phones, makeup, newspapers, and now movies?

You can mount 50 caliber machine guns in the front grill and start cleaning up though. The gene pool will certainly benefit.

I'm with D Latimer - at least my Ram gives me an unfair advantage over most vehicles that may attempt a run-in.

Does this mean that you would support a ban of all gun by private individuals since some stupid people will leave a loaded one lying around for their kids to play with?

I don't think that everyone should be punished for someone's stupidity. We are already an over-legislated society already. As other people have mentioned you can't outlaw stupidity. Stupid people will continue to do stupid things until someday they eventually learn from their mistakes (I'm not holding my breath), or remove themselves from the gene pool.

I think Joe G. hit the nail on the head... we can't outlaw everything for the stupid people. Cellphones, makeup, newspapers... it would be impossible. Lets just take away the licenses of the ones that cause the problems... eventually, others would get the hint.

And put an End to women drivers? LOL had to say it

Women Drivers No Survivors ;)

There are many deaths in this country associated with bathtubs. We could make bathtubs illegal and save hundreds of lives each year.

When we've gotten rid of the bathtub pestilence, what about swimming pools? Who needs a swimming pool? Make them illegal and save lives.

I just realized that I'm not thinking big enough. Water sports and recreation. Hundreds of lives saved by getting rid of recreational boats and the associated killer equipment. Only the government needs boats.

Drowning is such a senseless death. We can save thousands.

Last week in MT they made it illegal to operate a snowmobile without a lifejacket. All because one guy drowned trying to cross a lake on a snowmobile, in July!!!

Hey Bill- I bet you thought you left that mentality back in CA. WOW, what a keeper! If people are so inclined to hurt themselves, they should be allowed to remove their genes from the gene pool without the government's hinderance.

You got that right, and the worst part of it is you can't tax it either, "those" people seem to have a way of getting away with it.

We got one at work who was arrested on his lunch break for buying CRACK, now he is working "part time" while attending a "re hab" SAME PAY! I work for the city government! You and I pay for this I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER!

Proof once again that the most dangerous part of a car attaches to the edge of the steering wheel!! Because of stupidity now we can look forward to banning even hands-free cell phones because they 'distract' people from their driving!! (Similarly then, how will police officers and emergency personnell handle radio traffic??) Just as 'distracting'???. Guess I was mistaken but when I took driver's Ed they kinda impressed upon us priorities: 1. Breathing 2. Piloting a 7000 lb weapon capable of massive destruction. 3. anything else with your 'spare attention' 4. You HAVE NO 'spare attention'- your driving!! If driving is such a chore for these people that they get that bored, mebbe take the bus?? Glad however that everyone is ok!!
