Has anyone out there got the shop manual that tells how to remove the overhead console bezel. I need to get into the wiring behind that console to install a GPS antenna but I do not see any screws or other fasteners to take it off. There has got to be a somple trick that this old brain is missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

The clear light/buttons for the lights pop down. Stick a screwdriver in the front (closest to windshield) and pry it down a lil. The place where they pivot is where it comes down from.

Then there are 2 torx screws under the covers. The front has clips, you just need to pull straight down for them to release.

Rollie,

Do you have the mini-console or the optional one? Wouldn't it be easier to drop the entire console rather then trying to pull the bezel out?

Thats the same as I have. Those instructions above will take down the trip computer and bezel all as one. That is what you wanted correct? I know all the wiring is exposed when it's taken down.

Rollie, let us know how this turns out. I have an auto dimming mirror on the way, and would like to know if the elect. conn. is easy to get to. Thanks,

CONSOLE

I managed to get my console to come down my pulling it straight down. It is a tough tug to get it loose. It is clipped in there real tight.

I have to pull it down again as I tapped into the interior lights for my radar detector... but I did a HOMER and tied into the wire for the activation with the door open... DOH. I had the drivers door open while doing the surgery. Whoops. There are three wires, one ground, one door and one manual power for the lights in the overhead. Time to go hook up the other wire.

I did not want to run down the road with the door open to use my radar detector. :p

I asked a service tech about this and he told me that it is common for people to bust the clips off when removing the console. I have the console with the trip computer, lights and compass/thermometer. He told me that the procedure is to drop the back of the console (I don't know if the back is nearest the front windshield or the front seats), and when it comes loose you grab it by the sides and carefully pull it straight down. If you break the clips you be in a heap of trouble.

I posted the hook up a I used on both my 02 and 03 a while back. I was going to post a photo. I just put a sheet metal screw in the roof bow for the ground. I put it off to the side under the headliner. With the console removed you just drill at an angle. Only takes a couple of minutes.

heck, I just put my GPS antenna under the dash behind the factory radio. Works fine.

Would not be cool for the radar detector, though..... ;)
