Hi. My truck is in extreme limp mode, un-drivable and I need to get it going for work ASAP. I recently fixed injector #4 and my truck has ran great. While driving yesterday my DTC light popped on and my truck went into misfiring and smoking. I was able to barely limp it home as I was only two miles from home. Funny but it all went bad when I turned on my AC due to it was a hot day. It's a P2149 code not P2159 in title. I could find a way to correct it there.
I looked up the coding and it basically says number 5 injector is open. I measured it with an ohm meter and it isn't open but the resistance is a slight more than the others. I also noticed that the valve cover gasket internal injector wires are cracked everywhere. I see the valve cover gasket is made in China with the Dorman part number. I'm getting a new one to see it that will help(not Dorman). Will these cracks cause crossfires? How much volts go to injectors? Do these harnesses go open often? I'm going to do some measuring today looking for an open or high joint. When I put in the new gasket does anybody coat the contacts with NO-OX grease?
Any advice on checking this? I'm getting afraid to drive far from home due to when this happens it goes from good to bad quick. I had my 98 12 valve for eleven years and never let me down.
When the truck gets one injector out, the engine shuts off three in that bank(like 1-3 or 4-6)?
Sorry for a bevy of questions here. I have friends with this engine that are loggers and their engine has been flawless, just the front end keeps going out. Thank you for all your help. Herb
