P0841 transmission problems

Where is Fred Swanson

Little back story, I bought a 2008 Ram 2500 about 2 years ago. It had 160,000 mile on it. Had been deleted and evidently a programmer was used on it because the CEL wasn’t on. I am assuming that it was programmed with a H&S tuner based on the fact that there is a H&S engraved plate on the intake air horn. Two weeks ago, I had the CEL come on and the lightning bolt indicating there was a problem with the throttle control group. I hooked up my code reader and it gave me the P2121 code. Erased it and everything seemed fine. Trouble lights gone. Went to the feed store to get feed, and it did it again. Pedal didn’t respond, and when it did it was like it had a mind of its own and would take off.
Stopped a mechanic shop and had them hook it up to their Snap On scanner. Came back with the same P2121 code. He cleared it and suggested that I clean the battery cable connectors and bolts. I did that, but didn’t help, because it did it again not 5 miles later. Ordered a new TPS sensor/pedal from Geno’s and installed it. I took the cables off of the batteries for 30 minutes prior to installing it. Hooked everything back up, still no change, except now my code reader will not erase the P2121. Any help, guidance, direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Carl

Well, the changed out pedal did change the behaviour, so I would look real hard at all the connecting wires to the pedal, all the pins.. do continuity checks on each wire. Note, the CAN wire connections, if it has them (I'd have to look, but I'd expect it does). They need to show either 120 Ohm (disconnected) or 60 Ohm connected. It appears your truck is not getting a signal from the pedal. If I get a chance, I'll see what the wiring diagram has for the pedal connector. I've been digging into mine for some odd OBD2 port connector issues, so I'm getting all too used to looking at the wiring diagrams on this thing.

In this thread there is a re-learn proceedure after the 30 minute battery disconnect, where you ignition on, not start.. slow depress pedal to floor, then slow release.. Key off.. found it on this thread: http://competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136329

Well, it appears that the truck is fixed. I took it to a shop and the only thing they were able to find was the connector to the electronic throttle valve wasn’t plugged in. Have no idea why, but when they plugged it back in all the warning lights went out and it is running fine.

Thanks again for your help Michael,

Hi there. I’m having the same issue on my 2008 Ram 2500. Where is the electronic throttle control valve located? I’ve cleaned and checked the batteries, all good for almost 1,000 miles than bam! Lights back on and restricted power for a few miles while towing my travel trailer. A day later all lights now off while driving around town not towing. Thanks.

Hopefully this picture will help with the location of the throttle valve.
