I was just over at the local independent diesel shop dropping a friend to pick up his 2014 Ford. Sad story there. While there I spied 2006 5.9 with the PacBrake system installed on the head. I was given to understand that it was only for the 6.7 PacBrake's site is not very forthcoming and their phone jockeys aren't much better.
What's the deal?
The mechanic at the shop says they install them all the time and that the heads are identical when it comes to installing the kit. I asked him if I could go with him since he was about to test drive the truck. The performance was outstanding as regards the compression brake. Much better than the VGT on my 08'.
Is this just a case of the Mfg. not wanting to endorse an un-certified installation of their product?
I searched for the subject and only found two reports from 6.7 owners.
Anybody here have more info?

The guys that installed it say they've been installing them on 5.9's for quite a while. Although they didn't identify what that meant. The mechanic says the geography of the head as regards the valves is the same in both engines. I don't know if that is true but I couldn't pick out any difference. He did say you can't use the exhaust flapper valve type engine brake in conjunction. Too much heat I guess. I will remember to get a picture next time I see one. I'm kicking myself for missing the opportunity this time.

I don't think there's any heat (using an exhaust brake creates no heat) but the back pressure would be excessive if both were used.

Pacbrakes Load Leash is only manufactured for the 6.7 but I understand that it can be modified to fit on a 5.9. But that said, the Load Leash also requires a working VGT on the engine as well and since the 5.9 didnt come with one, you have to change that too. :)
