Hello Everyone,

I am the happy owner of a new PacBrake. My installer told me that I should shut off the main switch to the PacBrake about a mile before I got home, but I never asked why.

Do you all do this? I want to use it the entire time, and not shut if off before I reach my destination.

Well, this could be a little confusing, but... no, you dont have to turn the brake off a mile before you get home. I think what he was gettting at was the fact that having the brake on will cause a rise in egts. You can use the brake as much as you want, but before you turn your truck off, you need to let it idle for a while to let the fins on the turbo cool off. Make sense?

Now you know ,use that EGT gauge to let you know when to turn off the truck on cool down 3 hundred will do . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY

No as above. Ron

OK guys, that makes sense. I let the EGTs drop to 300 F before shutting her down, and leaving the PacBrake on (and the air conditioning, for that matter) slows down this process.

cool down

He should have clarified his statement. This last mile he is referring to (as stated) will help in the cool down process on the turbo as you drive slower. Thus less cool down time involved at a stop. The closed blade in the brake will hold that heat in the turbo. you may have to do your own experimenting with the process that works best for you. Notice how your EGT heat will rise upon shut down, no matter how cool it is when you shut it off.
