So these storms in Texas recently have accelerated the deterioration of my clear coat, mostly on the hood and front fenders, and the paint elsewhere on the truck isn't exactly showroom quality. I'm toying with the idea of painting the truck with bed liner. This thing has 430k+ miles on it so I'm not too concerned with it looking like a beauty queen anymore (at least not the exterior). Has anyone done this, and if so, how did it turn out in the long run? I know prep is key to a good paint job and I'll probably be doing the work myself, I just want some advice on products and really, which ones stood the test of time?

My younger son painted the inside of his CJ-Jeep in the early 90's with Line-X bed liner material. The company did a pretty good job in matching the blue that he wanted for the passenger compartment. This way he could was out the inside when he went off-roading and deer hunting with the jeep when needed. It was still in good shape when he traded the jeep in for a first gen (97) Dodge 2500 gas truck. I believe the lining material was four or five years old by than.

I have had my 2008 Dodge pick-up bed covered with Line-X since new. The material is just now starting to fade after 12 years of use.
