Well, done deal, it is in the paint shop, will be done Friday. I chose to paint the whole thing different than original, in the turquoise and white that I have loved for so many years. It will be white on the bottom, "Aqua Pearl Metallic" in the center section, and white on top of hood and cab and fiberglass topper.

By the way, the previous poster who quoted 8k for that in his area, my painter guy (who has painted three of my RV's and two of my cars) is charging me a lowly $800 for the whole job, plus some extra stuff. I have an AC garage, paint equipment, and experience, but for that price I would not even get it ready! This is summer in the Rio Grande Valley, the winter Texans have gone home, the paint people are HUNGRY!! I will post photos when it is all done, stay tuned.

Found One!

I finally found one on the internet, this is the color I have admired for a long time, mine will be that color this week:

My limited ability to research, the DuPont color chip book only lists it in 1996, and for that year they called it "Aqua Pearl Metallic". I have seen only a handful of them that color, but always thougt they stood out bright and attractive. We will soon see what it looks like on a 1997 3500 dually!

I saw a few on the lots like that it seems they called that color Teal.

Found these on ebay last year. When I ordered my 96 it was supposed to be painted like this. Dealer keyed wroung paint code, mines white on top and red on bottom. hope the pictures get posted, its my first trying to post with pics... ... .

Lookin good! I am sure that is my colors, except mine will be aqua in the middle, with white on top and bottom. Was stripped of mirrors and stuff today noon, and completed sanding, may have a coat on it by now.

Not sure of other years, but in 97 there was NO option for two tone on the 3500, I rarely even see one that someone has spruced up with an additional color. I suppose a dealer could give you a squirt job of color to make a sale.

Are they removing the bed to paint between cab/bed? I also don't understand why they are masking everything instead of removing lights? They are very simple to remove. I hope they sanded really well around door handle edges, antenna etc. so that the paint doesn't chip. Other than that, they are moving!

I am just going to live with the space between the bed and cab. I always have either the topper on or the pickup camper on, so will not be noticeable and did not seem worth the trouble. Not sure about the headlights, noticed they took off the tail lights, inside door panels etc. Was raining yesterday, too damp to spray, planning on doing it today.

Make no mistake, this paint job don't even start to compare to the job you done on yours, which I followed closely since I used to own a body shop. Great job!. First I am between trips, just came in last Friday from a month and a half trip, and need to head out again next week, which limited me some as well. This is an old 97 truck with over 200k miles on it and it sees a LOT of road use and sits out in the sun all year long, just could not see making it a show truck, but wanted a good looking "twenty footer paint job". For only $800 that is what I will have, quick and dirty like!

The paint you refer too was in 1996 and a half year color only,Aqua Pearl Metallic. Most all the trucks I have seen over the years were two-toned like your having yours done and a few waterfall paint schemes. I have seen only 2 Sports in this color and they both were 1/2 tons. It is a sharp looking color and very hard to find in a diesel... ... Andy

Thanks man. ;) I wasn't knocking the work or anything, just curious as to why they would mask the lights instead of removing them. I am totally against leaving sharp edges on paint jobs [around door handles etc. ] Seems like no matter how well they are sanded, they still peel at the edges. I think your truck will look great! My friend has a 96 1500 that is that color, looks awesome!

Thanks for that info, it agrees with what little I have dug up. I always loved the color scheme, and saw so few of them, and of course NEVER on a one ton dually diesel.

Keep in mind, in all probability the workers you see in the photo, are all over in the USA for the day if you get my drift. They are hard workers, but there isn't any Dodge trucks in Mexico, so they probably never encountered one before. Saw it today after he got the white on, really looks great so far, really slick and shiny. Going to go with the Aqua Pearl Metallic on Monday. I can hardly wait! He talked me into putting a aqua streak down the middle of the hood just for the heck of it! My chrome bull bumper was getting pitted and some rust, so he is putting a coat of bed liner on it, after all black ones seem to be the in thing now.

You might need sunglasses!

Well, got her back from the paint shop, still got to put on the bull bumper and some stuff, but I am totally happy with the old girls "new look". . What do you think?
