Pellet stove roll call!

Who has a pistol with a brace?

We recently signed up for Paramount+ so we can watch 1923. We use Apple TV for the most part, but have Netflix, prime, and a couple of others. We don’t have any problems with any of those. But, when we use Paramount+, it spends more time buffering than streaming. Before we pay more money for faster Internet, I thought I’d see if others were having this problem. Thoughts?

I just opened an account with P+. It's a benefit from the wife's Walmart account. I'm streaming it through our 4K Firestick and haven't had any issues. What are you streaming it with?

I just finished 1883 last night. Watching 1923 next. I've tried to watch Yellowstone but just can't get through the first episode. Call me a stick in the mud if you want, but it's too far over the line with the language and sex. I was surprised with the language in 1883, too many "F-bombs". I just don't understand why they feel it's necessary.

Far from being a prude but it does get old. Same with some comedians.

I don't mind the F-bomb in modern movies but can't stand it in old westerns. Just ruins the show. I just signed up for Paramount, it works good but didn't expect the ads. I have Frontier internet, fairly high speed.

We have a "smart" TV. It came loaded with a bunch of apps. Since we only have problems with Paramount, I just wondered if anyone else was having problems. I probably just need to pay for faster internet.

We started watching Yellowstone at the beginning and I was pretty excited about it, until all of the language and sex scenes. My mother in law quit halfway through the first episode and I didn't last much longer. We have just recently started watching it again, but I don't have any interest in going back to see the early episodes - so sometimes, I'm a little lost. I get a lot more enjoyment from watching Lonesome Dove and old westerns with John Wayne, et al.

Besides the rough language of modern shows, I wish they would try to make them more accurate to geography and events. In a recent Yellowstone episode, they were horseback, catching rustlers on the Milk River at the Canadian border and in just a little bit, they were in Billings. That's a good six hour trip without having to load a bunch of horses first. Then, they started seeing aborted buffalo calves in a pasture (brucellosis), so they shipped all of their cattle to Texas for the winter. Besides being illegal, they would have a pretty tough time crossing state lines without a brand inspection and health certificate. My wife says I'm nitpicky. I just prefer events depicted accurately.

I am cheap, I don't like paying for steaming services. Although we do pay for Netflix and since we have an AMAZON PRIME ACCOUNT, we get AMAZON PRIMETV. I tried APPLE TV but there in my opinion was not much on that streaming service. We do have DISH, so we can watch what we want here at home and at our summer home in Southwestern Mich.

We found on AMAZON Prime there are a lot of very good British police shows that are full of twist, with serval Mystery Theater shows also that are good.

Will if my memoir serves me right the F-BOMB word did not even exist in AMERICA around 1883. The word came about from the BRITISH Police when arresting some gentlemen and ladies of the night. It is an acronym that was used to describe their activates in the late VICTORIAN ERA, in LONDON. Just Saying

My thought as well. The acronym was "For Uncarnal Knowledge".

We live in rural areas at both ends, Snoqualmie Valley in WA and Borrego Springs, SoCal desert. No cable at either end, so we recently got a 4G-LTE device that works through our Verizon account for $59/month, no throttling or deprioritizing until we exceed 300 Gigs of data which is essentially unlimited for our use. It is "guaranteed" at 25 MBPS but you can pay more and get 50 or 100. We don't do gaming so we don't need faster. We have noticed a lot of buffering with Apple TV box, but we switched to ROKU anyway, no problems with that. We were able to get rid of our crappy Satellite Internet (Verizon Home Fusion) which cost 3 or 4 X and much as this new one. I was super skeptical when the guy contacted us but they give you a month to try it and it's been really good other than having to reboot it a couple times. It's called a Pep-Wave Max BR1 mini and is a receiver and router in one unit. As far as streaming we have not tried Paramount + yet, but we do Amazon Prime and Netflix. Have not deleted our DirectV yet, but maybe we will at some point. We have satellite receivers on both RVs, but since the streaming via PepWave router is so good we might cut the cord on the satellite TV altogether. There are 5G versions of these receivers but we don't go anywhere where that is really available yet. We don't like people that much. Ya want 5G, go downtown...

Our daughter, who lives here at the farm checked her Paramount+ when she got home and has no problem, but has the next higher internet speed. So, I guess we’ll bite the bullet and increase our internet speed. I think it’ll cost another twenty bucks, but that’s still just half of what we were paying for Dish. Dish was great for years, but we were increasingly dissatisfied with the cost that kept increasing. Thanks for the input.

While I don't know why it would only affect only one app....are you connected via wifi or ethernet cable? Hardwired ethernet will perform better than wifi, but is not always an easy option for some.

After talking to our daughter, I think we’re going to pay for increased speed. She has basically the same setup at her house with no problem, but has a faster package. When we built the house in 2007, we did not install an Ethernet cable anywhere but at the computer. Lots of technology advances since then… A company was installing fiber last summer, but stopped about four miles from us. They said they wouldn’t have enough customers to continue our direction. I guess that’s the price we pay for where we live - I wouldn’t trade it!

Paramount Plus works the snot out of my Smart TV compared to the other apps…if we have stopped and shut down the TV while in Paramount Plus it takes forever to start when the set is turned back on.
I’ve found it’s best to hit the “Home” button upon start up and then go into Paramount from there.
I have fast internet…

One issue with these different companies is that they fight over who gets access to customer info related to your use. We were told that Apple TV didn't play well with Netflix (which was our experience). I have no remote idea what any of this "data science" even means-they are stealing bits and bytes of information from us somehow-and they need to share code better, whatever that means. Anyway, the ROKU was $20 and works WAY better than the $100 Apple device. I am sure it has shortcomings but we have not observed any yet and have had over a year. I'm sure somebody here has a computer background and can explain this stuff. I just want something I can plug in.

Oh, for the more simple days! We didn’t have television until President Kennedy was killed and my folks made a deal with we kids. They would spring for a TV if we bought an antenna. We scrounged odd jobs to keep our end of the bargain. Three channels and whichever kid was handy was the “remote” control.

LOL, we had 5 kids fighting on a Saturday morning over the TV channel, probably about 1963 or 1964, my Dad walked out and yanked the plug and took it to Goodwill. He would rent a TV for the Olympics. Ah, we still watched plenty at the neighbors I guess. And I remember we liked going past the TV section at Sears and watching a little.

We bought a Firestick a few years ago and used it quite a while. When we got a 4K TV, I bought a 4K Firestick. It is a LOT quicker than the standard and I've yet to have a buffering issue. I say all that to say, not all the streaming devices are the same. I thought the only difference between the two was the picture quality, but the speed difference was enough that we bought another 4K Firestick for the bedroom TV that's not 4K.

Another daughter set us up with this smart TV about a year ago. She bought it at a PX somewhere and it’s just like hers, which she said was the hottest one, at the time. She doesn’t have any problems, so I’m going to go the faster speed first and see what happens. I learned early on to exit programs. Somehow, I had gotten locked onto Family Feud (which I can’t stand) and couldn’t get rid of it. I had to call her and ask what to do. Actually, she heard a few cuss words first… Most of the time, I could do without television and don’t watch it much. Too much garbage, nowadays.
