Amsoil's new 5w40

Hey Guys,

I just got a PDR hx40 from ebay for a pretty good deal. Having never seen a PDR HX40 in real life, i wanted to make sure i got what i paid for. IT is missing the identification tag, but it is much bigger than my hx30 and the exhaust hosuing says 16 on it, so im fairly sure its a 40. But how do i tell if its a PDR version. I can see exteranal evidence of mods. ANd the wastegate setup is mouted differently than on the pdr website, not sure if that matters. ANy help to idetify would be awesome.

Thanks

Mike

There are 6 blades on the compressor and 12 exhaust. I've heard that the waste gates can be mounted differently depending on exact application and year??? if i take it apart is there anything i should look for? I'll try and put some pics up tomorrow.

Thanks

Mike

IMO i think if it was a PDR 40 it would def. have the tag, they get new tags from holset and punch there own info in it.

i. e. HPDR-3591015

HX40W 072903

They also rotate the wastegate actuator because otherwise it won't fit in the right place without changing a bunch of other stuff. Does the compressor outlet match the one on your truck?

If you're into it cheap enough (or strike a deal with the seller if he misrepresented it) PDR can mod yours (they did my HX40 core).

I'm not sure how many blades are on PDR's compressor wheel. I think 6. Either way, the 6 blade is the desireable 60mm wheel. Again as long as you didn't pay PDR type money for it, then you got a good one. 6 blade 60mm wheel and 16cm wastegated housing. There's nothing to look for inside. Don't take it apart unless you plan on rebuilding it. PDR doesn't paint their turbo's, I think. My pdr35 was just the plain jane compressor housing. A core 40 would have old black paint on it. But of course a previous owner could've painted it.

Does PDR mark the blades like HTT does. The HTT I've had a good look at had an ink stamp that said HTT BAL on 2 of the intake blades and 2 of the exhaust blades.

Its hard to tell with the pic, but my blades appear to be at more of an angle (more parallel) to the housing. does pdr change the angle of the impeller blades?

the "bunch of mods" = bending the boost signal line... not too tricky :-laf

Unless you have an automatic. Then you get to mod the block mounted cooler liines and then you still can't clock it to align the outlet with the stock tubing.

Isnt Holset's new "Super 40" the same thing as a PDR40?

The only one I saw didn't have the wastgate actuator rotated. I would have expected that to be done to bolt up to a Dodge. Of course it might not have been a Super 40 but that's what the seller said it was.

PDR also machines the compressor housing to fit tighter to the wheel and balances it to a higher tolerence than the Holset spec.

Yes, thay start out as HX40's but they do some things to them.

I'm not sure what Holset does to the Super but if the one I saw was a Super it won't just bolt up to an automatic. You stick guys get lucky with that one.

I had a PDR HX40/16, it had an 8 blad compressor wheel and a 12 blad exhaust wheel, this came to me from PDR, then I over spooled it and had to have it rebuilt came back with the 8 and 12 again.

well, you can't machine a compressor housing for tighter tolerance to the compressor wheel unless you start w/ a smaller housing and machine it out, so I'm confused
