This has been an eventful weekend. It started on friday, I called Jon (HiPerf360) and he tells me there i gonna be a buch of folks up at Hogan's Dyno in Tulsa. . Informal dyno day!!!

At the time I had only the PE Comp and 4" exh. he voluneered to help me put in my new DD3s after I make my first dyno runs.

I ran second after a 300hp/353tq 2000 camaro.

Stock, 4" ex, PE Comp Turned off.

212. 6/449. 9

PEC 5/5

297. 5/736. 4

We put in the DD3's after a run to the store for a few tools I forgot. .

DD3s, 4"exh, PEC off

302. 4/637. 0

DD3s,4"exh, PEC 5/5

377. 5/891. 4

I stuck around long enough to watch Jon post som 400+ hp numbers and had to go.

Sunday afternoon I hooked up w/my neighbor to put in my new B1. We got started about 2:30 and finished just before 7. We were both getting tired and hungry.

We ended up cutting the top 6-8" off of my Hx35 downpipe adding adout 6. 5" of tube back to it. We took the supplied turbo flange and cut it to about 1" and welded it to a shortened 45* bend and joining the 2 with an exhaust clamp. Everything else bolts right up... painlessly.

If you didn't have to fab a downpipe it could easily be done in under 2hrs.

I left his shop and headed to town to get fuel. I had the comp on (I thought) and nailed it down the highway. The turbo sounds SWEET!! I hit the top of sixth and was hitting no better boost than the hx35. I stater to get when I looked down and noticed the box was on 1/1!!! I had made 39psi of boost. I upped it to 5/5 and boost went to 42+ psi instantly. I fueled up and headed for home.

Headed north out of Caney for home. There is a stop sign at the edge of town w/. 2+ mi hill that's my favorite run. I had made it over the top at 95+ mph earlier in the day. So I took off the boost started to climb. I was well below the crest of the hill at almost 90mph!!! and the clutch let loose AT 44 PSI OF BOOST!!!!

So, I've got to schedule the clutch (I bought it in advance ;) ) to be replaced. My clutch that held almost 900ft-lb yesterday now lets go at 2200 rpm in 6th:(;):D:D What a problem to have . . TOO MUCH HORSE POWER!!! :-laf:-laf

All you have to do is have friends like Kurt at KD RV & Truck Performance and you could have this 'Problem' too ;):p:D

I'll try to post my dyno runs later. I'll dyno the B1 as soon as I get my South Bend Con FE put in. Soon, I hope!

Moderators pm me if this is bad, but the B1 runs 1500 + 50 for the down pipe adapter. Everything else bolts right up. It is expensive for a turbo, but is still cheaper than a broken hx40 and a B1, and cleaning up the mess, and getting a tow, and the unneeded frusteration. (at least that is how I justified it) :(

darn yall......

now it looks like I'm going to have to get a B1. :D This is almost the SAME exact setup I am going to have.

Andrew

What kind of Dyno did you run on?? I would think that with DD3's and a PE comp on 5X5 you would have had better than 371 hp.

The reason I say this is that the DD dyno sheet shows a truck at 450+ with stage 2 injectors,a DD UFM and a bigger turbo. Maybe with the B1 you will get to 400 but that wouls still seem low??

Wonder how much hp his clutch was snacking on. Couple of dyno runs with the comp and injectors, I'm not surprised that it ate itself on the drive home.

Chris you put DD3's and a B-1 on yours and your going to have your hands fullOo.

Andy, I thought you wern't going to hook up the pump wire, did the bug get you;)

Remember hes an ETH, not an ETC.

*staring at the big box with a B1 sitting in it* If only my new exhaust was here... ... .....

I should have my turbo on Thursday or Friday.

First, This thing is smooth. You don't get the surge of the HX35 best I can tell. The spool up seems to be much better and the torque. . well there's much more of it WAY sooner. :--)

the questions, I'll start from the top...

The EGTs never got over 1000 on my power run where they shot up well over 1300 before. I'll post more on this as I drive more. I have 10-12mi on it now. Initial impression is over 400* over the HX35 while making more power.

KwikKurt (Kurt Yardley) @ kd rv truck and performance sells the B1. 505 534 0434. . there's a link to his email in my sig. Tell him I sent you so he's sure to give you a hard time ;);):p

The prices have gone up some due to prices of parts. Downpipes should be available very soon.

I'll find out what kind of dyno we ran on.

I had no trouble w/the clutch until the B1. I laid 30+ft of rubber at the dyno shop. . left a huge cloud of smoke only to discover a tube clamp loose :-laf:-laf

My dyno numbers were with a STOCK HX35! I'm guessing I'll be able to hit about 450hp w/the B1

Kurt says the B1 ends up at 10hp/psi. . My clutch is dieing at over 400HP!!! It all adds up right though.

It's making the same hp on 1/1 as the HX35 did at 5/5. I checked it w/the gtech. the HP was way off because the weight was wrong but the numbers matched for 5/5 before the turbo to 1/1 after. I read 20-25 hp more on a run where the clutch went (would be at 400+ hp due to wind).

Because of the ETH pump. . the injectors actually did more than the PE Comp. The injectors actually stole some of the PEC's thunder. You have to run some sort of box for a boost fooler.

HiPerf360 ran better but he had smaller injectors and a hotter box. . then there was the NO2:-laf. I think he ran a little over 400 hp w/o the gas.

Hey guys, call Kurt. The tubo IS THE SH!%!!! IT IS ALL HE SAID IT WAS AND THEN SOME.

How well did the nitrous work for him? Just curious as to what to expect when I get around to getting the nitrous setup on my truck.

Have you drove around with the PE COMP off?? Does the turbo still perform well... ... reason I ask is when it snows I turn the COMP off... ... ... ...

Jim,

I have plans to hook it up, just not anytime soon. Boy did I feel bad after leaving that dyno though. :( I know it was all in fun though.

PE Comp

Andrew,

Have you looked into alternate methods of connecting the Comp fuel pump wire? I've seen you post about the agony of leaving that wire dangling, but I wasn't sure if you had decided to go another route. I just ordered the blue chip cover, so I should have my Comp REALLY hooked up next week some time:D

JR2,

I am a little leary of taking any dyno reading as a "true" number. Numbers seem to vary with a lot of conditions. I had the benefit of running like Mark_Kendrick, getting a run in stock and then making an adjustment on site and running again.

With just a BHAF, I ran: 212. 5hp 441. 6trq

Added an EZ w/no boost elbow: 243. 6hp 594. 1trq

Same dyno, same day, 5 minutes between runs. To be able to see the change in hp while limiting the other variables was a big benefit to me.

Beast,

I am going to get my transmission work done first. Don't want to blow it, so self-control is what I'm practiceing.

Andrew

Beast2B,

Don't be leary of the dyno. . our hp and tq are almost identical on identical trucks.

SAE hp is corrected for conditions. . I need to find out the correction factor for Tulsa. Shouldn't be much, below 1000ft elev and 65* on that day.

I think std is 70*F at sea level.

Later,

Mark

the B1 works great with just injectors and my EZ---works even better with the hot,hot EDGE turned on----so I'd say it'd work great with the COMP turned off---chris

I guess I'm basing my leary-ness (cool word, huh?) on the posts I've read here. I seem to recall a lot of guys running their trucks on different dynos with the same bombs and getting way different results... maybe it has more to do with the operator or equipment calibration or... ?

I will have to say that as close as our baseline numbers are, it's nice to know where I'll be running when I get my injectors and B-1!! I'm trying to stay put where I am (once I get the stealth fuel pump cover) until I NEED a clutch, and I don't want to NEED a clutch at 20k miles:(

Although once tax return time comes around, maybe I'll have 21k and be ready for the clutch:D

20k?

on my old eth i had to change out my stock clutch at 5k miles. the southbend was working great when i sold the truck with over 35k on the clock. infact one of my friends paid to have it pulled out of my truck and put in his.
