Testing electric FP sender?

I've been running the 4200 for about 2700 mi. so far w/ no prob.

Now today About half way into a 130 mi trip i all the sudden the neaddle on the gauge started fluttering wildly between 20 and 30 psi. no noticable differance in the tone of the pump or performance. the flutter cleared up at part throttle but now does it at idle. is this the beginings of the end for my brand new PE?

i run -8 from a 1/2 pick up in the tank to the pre filter and to the fact filter then -6 to the vp. i run a pe pre filter also. ive read the posts concerning the prob's. so i'm aware of them. i carry a new 4601 carter and fitting just in case. its a Mechanicale gauge also.

(z-series 2 1/16") tee'd into the line fron the filter to the vp.

fact pusher is gone. the flutter smoths out at speed and no noticable loss in fp. (round 25psi) beat the snot out of on the return trip to kinda test my luck and i worked find 'cept for the flutter. even did a long 5/5 blast and the press never went below 20 psi. Any sugg. guy's? hate to bail on this pump so soon , but i need a reliable setup... .

TIA, Scott

Scott,

It may be your gauge and not the pump. Did you use a snubber on your connection to the FP gauge? The PE pumps will destroy a mech. FP gauge pretty quickly if you do not have one installed. Of course I learned this the hard way. It seems that some will last a while without the snubber and others go almost immediately.

I used to have an AutoMeter Ultralite mech. FP gauge with no snubber installed. Mine lasted a couple of months without the snubber and then out of the blue it started fulttering real bad. It was pretty much so OK rolling down the highway but as soon as I would slow down or stop it would fluttter real bad. The needle was moving so fast you could barely see the tip of it.

Andy Sebek of ADT installed a new ISSPro EV mech. FP gauge with snubber and all is well again. In fact with the snubber installed it is super smooth. The reaction time may be a little slower but it is worth it.

Jeff

P. S. If you alreay have the snubber installed... I don't have a clue. .

Jeff, that is exattly what my gauge is doing! no i dont have a snubber. help me out on where to get one. thanks much!!

Bob oh i am VERY aware of the prob's . . ie 30 percent failure rate. . ect... i'm hoping i'm in the 70 percent range:D :D

Thanks for the help, Scott

some of the issue might be all the filters also... . the guy [forgot his name] from PE told several folks that he wanted no filters in front of his pump [pre pump]. ya might want to check that out

Scott,

Call Doug at ADT he can get you exactly what you need.

Jeff

P. S. I hate to say it but your gauge may be toast. You may want to order another gauge when you order the snubber...

Pumps gone! removed screen ass. to no avail. gave up the ghost mid aft. w/ only 2700 miles on it. swapped in my new carter 4601hp 15 psi no flutter pulls to 10 on HARD run. hope to get the PE thing resolved as i realy like the PE pumps.

just a little update, Thanks, Scott

Scott... what does "pump gone" mean? I assume that means completely gone.

Sorry to hear that... keep us informed as to how things turn out.
