Figured I'd check the site before I go home, sitting here waiting for my relief to show up, he was suppose to be here at 7 am, it's now 9 am, this guy has never been on time, usually 10-20 minutes late, but today he is filling in for someone and thought he should be working nights. Sorry dude, I am on nights. Got here at 6:30 last night and ready for the hour commute home. Anybody work with someone like this, how do you mess with them? I really feel like screwing with this guy, what can I do besides just telling him to show up on time? Basically I am going to put this time on my time sheet so I make the money but it's time to start being a nuisance to him. Give me some good ideas, subtle things. Thing I can do over time that have no relationship to his being late. Not illegal things either.

Well you don't want any illegal things so I can not comment:mad: Me I would get right in his face:-{} and then:eek: Whoever/whatever he has for a boss I would get in theres too. If you set back and take it it just happens again and again. Do you have the balls to do something?

LOL@ lschultz - sounds like a challenge!

My sister-in-law is always over an hour late for any of the family gatherings. It has gotten to the point to where the whole family conspires to lie to her about when the event will take place, so she will show up near the same time that everyone else does. Her ex told me once that she left to do some Christmas shopping, at the time the Christmas party was supposed to begin. We almost finished the party and were getting ready to leave before she showed up.

Turnaround

Turnaround is fair play in this case. I had a co-worker who did this to me. We all used to show up around fifteen minutes early for our shift so we could pass on operation conditions and take off info to our relief, this also allowed the guy you were reliving to get off on time and also help for anything on hour. This one guy started coming in right on the hour or a few minutes late. After a few times of this I got fed up sitting around giving him his info, helping him with hourlys and walked out the door without a word. He had three product switchs/tank switchs (all manual) and several injections starting on his other line all within 30 minutes! Needless to say he started showing up 20 minutes early from then on, along with an apology. Works for me. :D

Yep, sounds like the usual payback around here. :D

I've got the full schedule at the house. There is one guy that show up right at 4:30 for shift change, the rest of the guys usually show up about 15 mins early. I know what days I need to be early and what days I get to sleep in a little. And I make sure to ask all kinds of question during turnover so he's here until at least 5:00 sometimes later. Right when the roads get really backed up with traffic. :D :D

You need to conspire with the guy who takes over for the latecomers shift. Phone him to show up late for exactly the amount of time the ingrate is late, do it everyday.

Unless the guy is extremely dense he'll get the idea.

Well, luckily I am the one to relieve him back, I just got here at 9:35 pm, the same time he got here 12 hours earlier. My wife said two wrongs don't make a right, I said screw that I'm gonna be late. When he got here this morning he was apologizing saying he hates it when he is late. I reminded him once again that he has never been here on time. As far as Lschultz, believe me I don't just sit and take it but on the other hand there are only ten of us that work here including management so it's easy to make a hostle environment and when that happens it sucks. This is actually the best place I've ever worked as far as attitudes and people getting along. I just like to mess with people and keep things light. One time a guy left his hard hat in the maintenance shop so I put about 100 zip ties around the webbing of it, the next night I came in and my hard hat had been filled with expandable foam, funny stuff.

There's only 4 of us in my plant.

We had a woman that WOULD NOT show up on time. EVER!!! This is while she was a TEMP!!

Well, she was my relief. Lucky me. Every day at the end of my shift I'd be standing in the door and my boss would walk by. I'd be tapping on my watch. He's just shrug his shoulders. Managment here dont give a rats a$$ as long as the place runs.

Long story short, she was hired as a perminent employee.

She was hired for a production slot, not in the steam plant. She didnt last too long there either.

In one of my last jobs, if your relief was late, you got your time back X 1. 5, just as if you were getting O. T.

I dont get relieved late here, but if it was a problem like youre having, I'd take that time back x1. 5. :-laf

Start calling him at home at about 4:00 in the morning so he has ample time to get up and get his butt to work... You can back up the time 1/2 hour each time if it isn't effective i. e. you must need more time, you were still late... Maybe his wife/roommate will start adding some pressure to him to be on time to avoid the calls.

One of the few things I've learned is you can't change people. They are who they are. My best advice is to put some distance between you and people like this. Life's too short.

I absolutely agree with slo-ryde, some people are clueless & have absolutely no interest in getting clued-in. Contrary to popular belief age does NOT necessarily bring wisdom or even having a clue (exhibit A would be one of my sisters). But good luck in your experiments in behaviour modification.

I worked with a woman who would show up for work a minute or two before the shift change or on the hour. If you show up on the hour the relieved operator could charge 1/2 hr OT. I charged her 1/2hr OT and she would get upset. Finally I could not take ti anymore,I would just walk past her when she would show up for work. If she wanted info she had to follow me to the change room. I told her to get off her arse and get to work. Later she was fired:confused:

Just realized something, wouldn't it be better to have the 1/2 hour of OT than the 1/2 hour of uncompensated time for showing up early to complete a shift change?

FWIW, my Dad used to work at the local city power plant as a dispatcher & that was one of his pet peeves. But he did love OT!
