Fuel line Bomb to change fuel pressure

Four Wheeler magazine

Sky... ... That's the average across the board. . I will be putting the turbo to the floor in the next few days after proper break-in. I'm optimistic at WOT, I will be able to keep in safe operating temperatures once top speed is established... apprx. 115 MPH.

I just installed mine tonight. I put the 15 min idle time on it and then drove around town. It sure doesn't spool like the 35 did but I had both boxes off and drove with a light foot. I can't believe no one has asked about the sound it makes when building boost. ..... Because it's way cooler then the stock 35 with out the ring. But I still have to try and get it above 20 psi of boost.

(edit: had to change the sig below):D

Heberam, wait till you floor it. My EGT's went up about 200 degrees from the HY at no and low boost pressures. But once it hits about 950 to 1000 degrees the boost comes on and the pressures stabilize. ( So to speak. ) The highest I have seen my EGT's are 1300 with the box on kill. See sig. Remember that EGT's at low boost will go up with the larger turbo because your boost pressures are lower when cruising. With my HY I was cruising at about 15 psi. Same speed with the HX-50/55 and my boost pressures are about 4 to 5 psi. Needless to say that the temps will be up at that low of boost. It is amazing how fast I hit 1000 yet from then on it takes it sweet time to 1300 and tops out. (For me. )

With 5500 ft. difference in elevation we will have very different readings. ;)

With close to 5000 miles on the Hybrid, I am as happy today as the day I drove it home. What an awe-inspiring turbo. :D FYI, the clearance is the same on the auto as with the six speed. Enjoy the turbo, as I said... . wait till you floor it. :--)

Chip... thanks for the info... I hope to exprience simular EGT's at WOT as you do which isn't bad at all!! What's the max boost level have you had your truck running at? Any problem with hoses? And finally, was your down pipe "extended" at the neck when you had to make up the 1-1/2 " to the turbo? I had to "ding" my pipe on both sides to even get it to go because it was hitting the frame and transmission.

All in all, the turbo is running very well, and its time to crank it up!:D

Steve

P. S. Chris... . Make sure you have several miles at varing speeds before you put the hammer to it. Also, make sure your truck is at operating temp and oil presure is normal... You probably already know this, proper cool down where-ever you go , will insure proper lubrication during spool down, and extend the turbo life.

Heberam, my max boost is 57 psi. Needless to say that I will need a wastegate before I can get larger injectors. As for my exhaust, same thing here. But I will be going to a 5' setup so I will have Stan's Header bend a little less radius on the top bend right out of the turbo. Good luck. :)

Dee... . The smoke is just a little more, because you build boost a little slower at low speeds. Once you spool up no difference.

Why are you concerned about smoke? :D

Steve

HeberRam, I was told to take it easy for 200 miles before I put more then 20 psi of boost to it.

Are you saying don't get on the interstate and set cruse for 200 miles? I guess I can drive around town but I won't be building much boost that way. I have about 25 miles on the new turbo. All the roads are coved with ice so I left my truck at home.

Chris... I didn't say not to go on a 200 mile cruise, I said put several (meaning 100's) of miles at varying speeds to help to properly break in. Just do your everyday driving, some freeway etc. When you cruise down the freeway, you shouldn't be building much boost any way. Since turbos are built with close tolerances, you want the oil to properly seat the shaft and bearings. Proper breaking in and cool down of turbos is important for longevity.

Steve, Me worried about smoke;) I am getting Piers' Lazer cut delivery valve at the same time. I am hoping I don't loose any smoke... .

HeberRam : Thankyou sir :D Now all I have to do is wait for the snow and salt to get off the roads so I dive my truck again :{

Steve

Haven't seen a package from you yet:confused: I hear through the grape vine that there might be a hostage situation under your hood:rolleyes: I have a grinder and flame wrench, welding the nuts on is not a permenent solution Don't make me come down there;)

Sounds like this turbo would be a great match for some of those EDMed injectors that J. R. Adkins is brewing up.

Great reports so far guys! :)

Feb. 17,2003 I am going to test drive a truck today with an HX-50 to see if I want to put one on my truck. I am very interested with all your results, keep em coming. Knowing me I will have an HX-50 in my garage tommorow. :--)

Greg B. temps come up very fast but level out. I have been told that you can pull if you keep your rpm up high above 2100. you won't be able to dog the engine. I am still breaking mine in or I might be able to tell you more. I well keep you posted after I pull something

Well guys, I finally got 200 miles on the new turbo. This is what I think so far. First off I lost my low-end power. I use to be able to stomp down on the smoke pedal in 3rd gear from a rolling start and spin the tires once boost come up. That is gone. But I still have very good low-end power much better then the H2E. But it is much easer on the driveline because I don’t get that sudden surge of power that I once did so low in the rpm. With both boxes off and just the BD 5 injectors if I easy in to the fuel as the boost builds I still have a very light smoke up to about 20 psi of boost (very light on the fuel and building boost slowly). Once I let up and hold the boost in the same spot smoke goes way. Running down the hwy empty cruse set at 75 to 80 mph boost never went over 20 psi of boost egt never over 950 even up steep Missouri hills. Every day around town boxes off if I easy into the fuel I have run up through the gears and don’t make much to any smoke. Today in St. Louis once I relearn how to drive my tuck I was able to drive fairly hard from stoplight to stop light and didn’t make that much smokes empty egt were in check. Now on to what counts … It takes longer to build boost up to 20 psi then it does to go from 20 to 50. So far I keep letting out at 50 psi but once boost starts building it is hard to stop it at 50. What I am trying to say is once it’s starts HOLD ON because it flies up their in a hurry. With a box on, and high in the rpm turbo spools great. Boost hits 50 so fast it’s hard to watch it and the road at the same time. So far I haven’t seen over 1100 egt and before Doing the same thing I would see at least 1400 with out even trying. Box on standing on the fuel from idle TONS of SMOKE but once it lights I couldn’t tell I just know I was flying forward. Tires seem to have broke lose near the red line in 3rd gear 4 to 5 and 5 gear are way cool once boost is up. Keep in mind I keep trying to let off at 50 psi of boost. (As I am only 20 miles over the first 200) I was able to make 50 psi of boost with just the injectors, And that was not even trying after a few more miles I well give a better report. As far as towing unless you tow at 80 like me or tow in 5 gear I don’t think this would be a wise chose for a turbo but I will let you know once I try and pull something. I am leaving for Florida tomorrow I so it we be at least a week before I post again.
