2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission play in steering shaft

Hi, I have been chasing down what has been causing poort steering/handling in my truck. The only thing left I can figure is the gearbox. When i grab hold of the steering shaft, I can shake all the way down to the gearbox. I read a tsb one time that showed tightening the allen screw on top and then removing it to tighten it up if that doesnt work. Does it sound like my gearbox is in need of adjustment/replacement? I went thru the same thing recently. I did the allen screw but not the other adjustment. Ultimately I ended up with a new steering box to get the truck steering safe enough to pull the 5ver. This is the second box, also second set of ball joints and second steering shaft. I had a Borgensen steering shaft but the mechanic working on the truck said he was unable to get it to fit tight on the new box and so put a new OEM on.
