What should I look for after dealer dropped fifth wheel?

I have a brand new Prodigy controller, just went and picked up a 32' enclosed car hauler and I get the n. c code, which means the prodigy doesnt think the trailer is connected. All the running lights, brake lights and turn signals work, but the controller still doesnt think the trailer is hooked up! Anyone have any ideas? Connectors are clean and everything else seems to work. Thanks for your help in advance

Do the brakes work? Pull the "emergency disconnect lanyard"(?) to see if the brakes energize ( I usually jack up a trailer wheel and pull the cable to check). If the brakes do not energize, you have an open wire or connection in the 12 v supply or the brakes ground.

Not knowing the trailers history, it is possible that the trailer electrical fitting is not wired correctly.

In the past, people used to wire trailer connections to use the trailer/truck frame and hitch ball connection for the ground. When you did this you would have to drive it around a while to wear off the paint and grease to get a good ground connection.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it is a gooseneck and that I used an adapter (trailer six pin, truck 7 pin). The connections all seem good though. Thanks for the advice I'll give it a shot and if it doesnt work I guess I'll whip out the multimeter and start checking wires and pins.

The one time my prodigy did this, there was a wire pulled loosed inside the connector on the trailer side. You might try taking connector apart to make sure all wires are in place.

First I'd check the brake fuse under the hood. ive blew two screwing around with my brake controler. Also ( I think) there is two different adapters from RV7 to 6 posts. Make sure you have the right one

Prodigy barke controller

I just picked up one of those also and haven't installed it. I have read the instructions. Slide the manual brake lever over to make your manual brake work?

If you can it is hooked up and you need to boost the signal. PW:)

fuses/circuit brakers

Bombero;

noticed that you are using fuses on the brake circuit, suggestion--use a circuit breaker in there. that way you will still have brakes if you have a malfunction or short. no power- no brakes. when it comes to safety and power, use a circuit breaker.

just my penny's worth.

You probably have the wrong adapter. There are 2 different ones.

One has the brake pin on the side (in the "S" terminal) & one has the brake in the center (in the "A" terminal). That is where the terms " center pin brake" or "side pin brake" come from. If you have the wrong one you won't have a circut to the brakes & you will get N C no connection. Hope this helps.

Mine did the exact same thing when I moved it from my '01 Tundra to my new 2500. Everything worked but it would periodically flash n. c. It would also periodically flash 0. 9. with no trailer connected. I called tekonsha and they said that was a common problem and it was real bad in a ford diesel. About two months later (three weeks ago) they sent me a test unit which corrected the problem. I called them, told them it worked and they said that the feedback from other testers was the same.

If you call tekonsha and tell them the problem they are replacing the units free of charge.
