I'm guessing one of the reasons for such a high percentage of manual equipped 5. 9L turcks is that the owners who buy a truck with a manual transmission are a bit more serious about their vehicle, and more likely to visit a site like the TDR. The average guy who buys a truck off the lot with an automatic transmission is oblivious to places like this. I still find the poll interesting, and would like to see a bunch more 6. 9L votes.

Bingo.
(Except for the 6. 9 L part?) :)

Switched to auto with 04. 5... miss rowing and real trucklike rattle of 02 6spd... and the directness of the hookup vs the slushiness of auto. I will upgrade auto (DTT or something) and must say it is a pleasure to drive. Wife will take it and do chores too. I hated the freeway slowdowns with manual. Higher coffee spill on manual combined with cell phone... crazy. Auto better on multi tasking and mind drifting. George

Ordered a new 04. 5 6spd, drove it for a year. Traded it for a 05 auto, drove it for a year... . I'm back in an 06 6spd I love it. I'm keeping this one... unless I sell it LOL

G56 Manual transmission, 2005 Dodge Laramie

I concur, looking at a 2005 Ram 2500 Laramie w/ 153k miles, hauled a 5th for 10 years, truck appears very clean, well maintained. Has the 6 speed manual G56 transmission, how many more miles can expect before a rebuild or clutch replacement? Plan to use with 4 wheel pop camper and tow a boat.
Appreciate some sound advise, thanks.

I have the 04 6Sp with 240K. I put a SB DD in it about 100K ago. Other than a little grabby in reverse it has given excellent results. If it has the Dual Mass clutch, you might be looking at a replacement soon. IF that was already replaced then it depends on how it was treated. I don't see any reason that a clutch should not last at least 250K before replacement. I'm sure a daily driver will wear faster than one used on the interstate as that is what mine does pulling my 46' g-neck.

My 04.5 burnt in a trailer (connected) fire and now have an 03 with 275K and the 6 spd. Runs fine. Had a fifth hitch in it. Canadian, probably Alberta oilfields with lots of gravel in the nooks and crannies. But runs great, pulls my new 5th like a freight train. I would not sweat the 153K miles...especially highway.
