The BD on my 01 is vacuum operated and operates instantly.

The BD on my 05 has the air pump and seems to have about a 1/2 second delay engaging and releases very quick.

I installed both myself and thought both were very easy.

I have a BD exhaust brake on my 981/2 and I love it. I use it all of the time I'm still on my 2nd set of rotors and 3rd set of pads on the front and still are running the original shoes on the back with 200K on it. My 2003 has an Jacobs (factory) on it and it's not 1/2 the brake of the BD and is on it's 2nd vacuum pump only 63K on it.

Bovee, the BD uses the truck's vacuum pump to operate the valve, the others require the addition of a small air compressor to operate the valve. I have a push/pull switch on the stick, instant on and off, there is no delay as mentioned above.

Electric, but that is only an option with the US Gear. Air and Vacuum take too long to close and release (unless you have an aux air tank). IMO

The Jake closes instantly, and opens even faster. The 3 second delay the the ECM saving the turbo (which is why I can't figure out why Banks removed that delay).

Well my Banks Brake from 2003 or 2004 has about a one second delay! It it tapped into a lead at the APPS. SNOKING

Yeah I guess Banks doesn't completely remove it, they reduce it to 1 second. I can say after watching my drive pressure/exhaust brake gauge and my boost gauge I am glad for the 3 second delay, there are time when it takes almost the full 3 seconds for the pressures to drop.

I've been running a Banks Brake since '05. I love it. I leave it on most of the time. The controller does an excellent job. The tap at the APPS is the weakest link. I replaced it with a Positap which workes much better. Solder would be better yet.

I have a Pac Brake on mine and i love it but i have had a few Cummins Mechanics tell me that the BD is a lil more user friendly and not as many bugs like my Pac Brake im having problems with it not coming on at times i have to shut the pickup down and restart it to get it to work

I replaced the control valve/solenoid assembly after three and a half years and it works just like new again. They get crud in the little passage ways and start to give you trouble. Took the original apart and cleaned it once, but ended up replacing it. Happy camper again.
