What was the reason to choose the filter for the top of the cowl over the one in the stock location?
Incorrect. For the trucks that don’t come with them originally, it’s an easy addition. There is no stock location for that truck.
Not really incorrect. Having to cut a hole into the plenum is not a stock location on a truck that was never meant to have it.Incorrect. For the trucks that don’t come with them originally, it’s an easy addition.

Yepppppp.....it was NEVER meant to have it, that’s why there’s this actual MoPar part number and link for the same, identical thing:Not really incorrect. Having to cut a hole into the plenum is not a stock location on a truck that was never meant to have it.
I know the kit is available now and has been for a few years. I was told it was not when I purchased my truck in ‘14. Was told by a dealer, who I didn’t believe so I called FCA only to be told the same thing, that a cabin filter was not available for my model year truck.Yepppppp.....it was NEVER meant to have it, that’s why there’s this actual MoPar part number and link for the same, identical thing:

I started having cooling issues in our 2014 3500 and the culprit is the cab vents behind the rear seat. They are letting outside air into the cab instead of venting the cab to the outside. I took the back seats out and used some plastic sheeting and taped those vents off, made a huge improvement. The AC has always blown cold air but it could not keep up with all the hot outside air coming inside the truck. This winter when it cools off I am going to try to replace those vents, if not I will permanently cover them up. There is enough holes for the rear window motor that enables venting to the outside so I see no harm covering them up permanently.
Fairly big job. thanks for posting this.Looks like it's for real.
