Paulk and Steve,
With injectors and the PE it will be time to up grade the transmission(only because you will not be satisfied running around on setting one with the PE #ad
). My 98 have a BD TC and Transco Shift kit that did the trick.

i have 275's , 4 " and a hot #3 PE , in #3 i can slip my convertor at will , running the VA with the combo is even better , but smokey in anything but 1 , i haven't slipped the convertor in 2 with the VA , but i am cautious how hard i hammer it , will be doing the trans soon , i'm leaning towards Diesel trans tech ( bill k. ) new valvebody and soon to be released convertor.

I have a 98. 5 auto 4x4 with 275's, VA and the VA oriented PE. Everything works great but I'm keeping a close eye on the trans fluid level and colour. I have installed a shift kit but no mods to the TC yet.
With this config. , pre PE max boost was 26 lbs. With the PE installed but turned off, peak boost is 30. With the PE set to 2, Peak boost is 36. I think this is a great setup due to the ability to select various different levels of power. I have not noticed any significant smoke at all.

The Power Edge module can cause the stumble discussed above. The cause of this has been isolated and modifications made to eliminate this problem. If anyone has experienced this problem please let us know so we can get an updated module to you. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Brett,

Thanx for the great support. I had a replacement unit from HVAC/MOPAR within days of my original install. The replacement unit has NOT stumbled at all!! And everything works GREAT. You have one VERY satisfied customer here!!!

Dave

Ditto on the great service,HVAC,BRETT & TAYLOR!

I don't get it!

I drove around this afternoon with my brother and put it HOT #3 just for chits and giggles and the clutch wouldn't slip not one bit. It took off like a rocket and never let up.

It must've been Dirt Dobbers built a nest in my clutch this morning. #ad

Well I can tell you that the VA combined with the edge makes a very powerfull combo, albeit while making a healthy amount of smoke. Currently I am driving around town in level 1, with levels 2 and 3 in reserve for fun when I'm alone on dirt roads or on the highway when challenged by some insolent gasjob. I will say that even with the poweredge in level 3 the VA is still stronger out of the hole - it adds fuel right off the bat, wheareas the edge lags for just a split second after you punch it. After that, there is no comparison between the two, although I think they compliment each other well. They really don't smoke very much unless you are in level 3.

As far as the clutch goes, mine has yet to slip, even with the edge on 3, the VA, and the 275 injectors! I'm not fooling myself, though - it can't last forever. When it does start to slip, I will probably jetison the VA and hope I can hold out for awhile with the stock clutch. I would rather wait and put the dual disc into my next truck, which I plan to take to a much higher level than the current one.

JJ, thanks for the FYI, I will try it your way.

Briar, no that wasn't me, I am pretty unassuming looking. Mine is but a basic looking reg cab ST "work truck". It suprises people to find out all that power lurks beneath, though! My EGT probe is post turbo, so 1000 is my limit anyway, but I have not had to let up to prevent it from going higher.

David VT, you out there? As you know I was just in Big Sky Country (got home last night). Glacier was some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen - check out some of the hiking trails, which have even better views than Going to the Sun Hwy.

Well I finally got my power edge installed yesterday... ... Heeeeeeee Haaaaaaaw. Level one is great, just enough power to make me smile. Level two gets me laughing and level three leaves me grining ear to ear. I took my Dad for a ride tonight and all he can say is "that thing hauls #&@". Thanks HVAC for turning me on to the bombing and thanks Bret for building the little black box.

Articat,
Just got to Whitefish. We are in our condo by the lake. We did the 'road to the sun' yesterday, spectacular views. 88degrees at the top. Cummins Dodge RAMS everywhere in Montana!! (even at the dealers!!)

All,
Had three PEish stumbles in the 2500 miles crossing the country. One on one day and then two less than 30 minutes apart on the next day. I thought the first might be from a passing semi with a linear CB amp, judging from the antennas on the cab. Second day was remote on rt 200 in montana (missile silo areas).

Brett, please send an updated version. (I'll get in touch by phone if you don't see this)

Clutch is slipping even more now when I get into it. Need the new Mcleod as soon as I get the green monster home. All power levels do it, always starts as I hear the power coming on under 18K.

I love the power!!

Average mpg about 18. 2 thus far on the trip.

Almost got killed by some SOB who passed a truck and wanted to occupy the same space as me. (head on)

I pick up my little PE from the Post Office on the way home from work and had it installed in about 40 min. Thanks Mopar!

With the RV ECM and the 275 injectors this little black box is friggin' amazing. My testing time was limited so I started out in level 3. The power comes on very smooth and with very little smoke until you mash on it a bit. It kinda feels like a 250 cc two stroke dirt bike coming on the pipe when the power kicks in. I get a rather large puff of smoke but it's gone as soon as the boost comes up. On the backroads I had no trouble with EGTs at all. The only trouble I had was trying so slow the beast down before the next turn. Thank you BD brake!

On the highway it's a different story. At 60 mph in 5th. (and nailing it) the pyro shot rigt up to 1300 (pre turbo)by the time I hit 90 mph. I found that if I let of as the gauge hits 1200 and wait for it to drop to 1000, the EGTs don't rise as fast.

I was only getting about 36# of boost so when I got back from my test run I checked the connections on the intake hoses. I must not have tightened the one on the horn enough because it was ready to be shot off the end of the horn. opps. since a thunder storm hit shortly after I didn't get to go out and play some more.

The standard PE program seems to work great with my setup.

GREAT PRODUCT!!! The only thing I would change would be to get rid of the crimped on electrical connections and make them the same type used on the boost module plugs.

better turn off the puter now be for it gets zapped my the storm.

Good job with the box guys!!

After a an hour or so of fueling around this morning the clutch checked out on the way home. I was hoping it would hold out a little longer then hour or so. It still holds OK on level one but any more than that and it and it runs for cover.

Plug-n-Play seems like lots of fun for you overvalved types, but I'm glad my simple little torque plate doesn't need lead shielding when I "buzz" an over-watted CB or drive thru a radar's path--- The cops might start BOMBing their radar guns to fry your "boxes" #ad
(especially in the areas like Youaintfromaroundhereareyaboy County Alabama and Squeallikeapig,Georgia. rich

The noise problems can be eliminated with proper sheilding of the wires, unfortunately the Scotch lock connectors will prevent us from slipping some braided line over them thus preventing EMI. It could still be done though, you would have to split the braided shield down the middle, slip it over the wire, then ground at both ends, this would work for all but the strongest of RF signals I am going to wait at least until the "timing" version of the PE comes out, Is there any talk of a box that will allow higher RPM's as well... . that would be nice an ISB that would rev past 4000, think of the hp numbers we could make since HP is a function of torque and RPM... . Ol HVAC may break the 700 hp mark #ad

by the way HVAC when the heck are you gonna get us some 1/4 mile and dyno numbers?????

I think you're supposed to ground shielding only at one end. Grounding both ends would turn the shielding into an antenna.
This was a reocurring problem on our AB drives when one of the new guys at work grounded both ends of the shielding and created a noise magnet that created havoc with maintaining line speed on one of our Extrusion Line Huggers.

Thanks for the tip. We have lots of shielded cable at work. You can use alluminum foil to join the end of the shielding and wrap the connector Maybe I can make up some harnesses with my "Government project" time.
