OK, I think I'm gonna give in and get one. BUT, what's the difference between the "Power Edge" and the "Power Edge EZ"? Any advantages like performance, price, etc?Let me know something ASAP as I have a deal I'm currently sitting on that I have to decide on.

Thanks for any help, and tolerating a little impatience,

-Ron

Do you have gauges?

The differences are pretty big.

EZ - Plugs in in 5 minutes, unplugs same amount of time. Adds about 40 peak hp (65hp max gain lower RPMs). Has 3 settings for smoke control. Use the search function of the website and you will find numerous postings on the matter.

Easy on the warrenty.

PowerEdge - considered one of the "major" fueling boxes. My levels are 50hp, 80hp, 100hp. This box will raise EGT's oconsiderably. Also you have to tap the injection pump wire with this box. Are you concerned about your warrenty?

Like I said use the search function..... and you'll find pages of reading on the matter. Price is close on both of them. How far do you want to go power wise?

I gave you a "quick" rundown..... been up since 4pm Saturday afternoon. Any other specific questions jsut ask.

Yeah, I want to keep my warranty intact. So I'm guessing that once I tap into any wires, I become my own warranty station, right?

Also, I haven't installed guages YET, but that's next on the list. It would be first on the list but like I said, I have to move on this one. I still have the factory exhaust and don't plan to straight pipe it 'til the OE goes bad. I know stock gives me higher egt's. So that probably kills any notion of getting the PE.

Well pretty much, if they find the nick in the wire. If your concerned about warrenty I urge ya to try the EZ first. IF thats not enough then consider a PowerEdge. All Edge products carry a 60 day money back garentee. Also do you have gauges yet? That would be the first thing to do, do not add a PowerEdge without a EGT gauge. The EZ you could "get by" with for a while although gauges are a good idea.

Do You Tow?

RA, do you use your truck to tow? If so, then the EZ would be a better choice IMO. It is removed very quickly for trips to the dealer.

The Power Edge is better for those that run empty, although you can turn it down to a lower setting. The tap for the pump wire used by the PE is a very slick device. It's actually a needle. I doubt anyone would be able to find it even if they were looking. I've not heard of anyone being caught.

Make sure that if you choose the EZ don't velcro it down as we seen someone get seriously questioned about it. I just use the foam that comes in the box and wrap it around the module, then tuck it to the side.

I have both. It looks like you tow a 5th wheel. I would recommend a EZ and some gauges first. After that I would recommend injectors if you felt you need more power. This way you will be safe and as stealth as possible.

I'm back

Yes, I do use my truck to tow a flatbed trailer and occasionally a stock trailer. OK, here's some questions for whoever might have answers:

- Just wondering, why is the EZ better than the PE for towing? Is it because the PE raises the egt's too much?

-Will the EZ or bigger injectors fool the computer into thinking it is using less fuel than it is? (in other words, will the mpg display still be right?)

-Where would be a good place to get SPA guages at a decent price, or is that an impossible wish?

Thanks to all for the info.

R Anestis,

The EZ will not raise you EGT's too high. The EZ comes with a boost elbow, and you can adjust the fueling to come in about 4 lbs of boost, or 10 lbs of boost and I think the 3rd setting is around 20# of boost, which will help control the smoke. It also advances the timing and fools the computer into thinking that the boost is below 20#, but allows your boost to go up to much higher. Reguardless of what setting you have it on, it will give you the same amount of fueling and timing. The fuel will just start at different boost levels according to the settings. Most people who use the EZ are getting anywhere from 45 to 60 HP increase. The EZ installs in about 5 minutes.

The PE will raise the EGT's while towing above 1350 degrees. It has no timing advance. It has a buttom that you can switch power levels on the fly. You can add from 50 HP to 100 HP with the push of a button. The PE installs in about 45-60 minutes and has to attach to the injection pump wire. (Which is a real pain in the butt).

You will need a box to fool the computer so it doesn't start defueling.

As far as your trip computer, forget it, the MPG has never worked properly on most of the Rams out there.

I highly recommend you get gauges with either box you decide on. I got the PE first, but I didn't tow anything.

I'm not sure where you are headed as far as HP and performance. If you just want to improve performance while towing, I think I would go with the EZ and gauges. And then like I said in my previous post get injectors and help save the wear on the injection pump.

Can't help you with SPA gauges, I have UltraLites.

If the dealership tech questions me about my velcro... ..... I'm gonna tell him I purchased the Replacement Lift Pump Option, and thats where the spare pump was mounted at from the factory. ;)

Heck, the Dealerships Tech installed my EZ--free--at the dealership, a week ago.

I use my dually to tow enclosed trailer and race car, and I LOVE IT!:D :D

A client of mine drove my Dodge last night and immediatley was so impressed he begged me to find a fuel box for his 2000 F-350 dually crew cab--he wants one.

Go with the EZ then you can alsways add another box later.

My next BOMB is valve body then gages!

Max

PS On Factory trip computer, before EZ box it was very accurate, always within 1/10th, now with the box, its off less than 3/10ths

and I am getting same mileage as before, but now I am driving hard--just to see the smoke:D :D

A turnkey solution

If you are looking for both SPA guages and Power Edge Products, Go with HVAC. I bought the DG111 Boost/EGT guage from Nowel and it works great. Also, Installer error (me) didn't get it right and Nowel and his partners Mcrossley, and Bpine worked hard to get it right. I am currently running a loaner EZ in my ETH right now from Nowel and I mus say it's a ton o fun. I think one of the reason for it being better for towing apps. is that fueling and boost come in at a very low rpm. One graph I've seen is that at 1500 rpm, the ETH is putting 700ftlbs of torque to the ground. This has to help for towing. Nowel's webs site is www.performancediesel.net He's a great guy to talk to, with a ton of knowledge.

Ranger Dick, I agree the EZ is perfect on an ETH for towing as it adds quit a bit of power and the EGT's stay in check as in not above 1200 degrees.
