TDR Issue 89 - Nearly Famous

Nov 10th

BIG says to Gary that "He is diagnosed with leprosy and they are prepping Him for permanent residency in South Carolina in an outdoor rehab center so's he can set there on a porch and play a Banjo fer the passers by"! :-laf:--)

GregH

Thank You All.

Gail is resting and the hospital finally cleared his laptop. He's been texting with Greg keeping up his spirits, Greg has pretty much said in his posts what's happening. Gail fell from 20 ft on a barn build he hit the ground and rolled up to his feet. He looked around like he was wondering if he was supposed to be hurt, I thought that he had the wind knocked out of him. But he shrugged his shoulders and said that his left leg is bent. The aluminum tube crumpled as it was designed to and a sensor made his foot move up and down, he said that his foot must have been scared because it was trying to run away. :-laf

His stump was stuck deep into the prosthetic socket and couldn't get it to release the suction that holds it on, until he put a stick down the socket to release it. he said that it felt like it got pinched is all. We most always have some parts to fix it but a ring that holds the leg tube was damaged and the sensor, So we went home. He got out of the car to shower and told a friend that he didn't feel so hot and collapsed, 911 was called. Nora our daughter is a Nurse in the Air Force now reserve came over and said to get him a helicopter evac. She applied a inflation device to apply pressure and stop the bleeding. Here we are he's doing well but that's hard to know with him, they came in and looked at it cleaned it up and massaged his stump to help drain the blood that had accumulated. He won't yell or scream with pain but his eyes were sure watering. His Doctor came in and asked if he needed anything for pain? Gail didn't hesitate saying that he needed some NOW!!

Three days and they will put in a synthetic tube like artery if he doesn't reject it they will go back in remove the original artery, they have taken some of his blood and are making a culture so if he doesn't reject the artery they will use the culture to bond it permanently the synthetic tube it acts like a normal graft.

Pretty amazing stuff they can do and have come up with.

Thanks all when Gail wakes up from the shot of ? that the Doctor gave him for pain. Im sure that he'll be raising hell with everyone once again.

Penny

OK Guys, we're all concerned about Big, Penny and the Mules. And I bet Big would expect a few jabs at his expense so I'll start one.

Is the hyper clean room to protect Big from whatever, or to protect Big's neighbors from all of the stuff you get from traipsing around the woods?

Penny, Big is a lucky guy to have you on his side right now.

Gary I think you may have it wrong we are lucky to have HIM around. Im Blessed to be with him, he's always taken care of his family and given up lots of his dreams to do so. To him that's just part of being a Father and Husband, to us it proves he loves us more than himself. The sad part to this is that this years hunting is not going to happen for him, his whole year is about hunting for a couple of months the rest is always taken up by something that somebody else would like him to do, and he's good with that. The Doctor told him he had to take re-hab easy or it could be that next years hunting is in jeopardy also. I asked the Doctor after reading his Medical records do you really think he's going to re-hab slowly?

Penny

I'm praying for you all from this side of the border as well. (I just got back from 2 weeks in the mountains and this is the first post I read.) David

I'm giving up my self imposed exile to say get well.I'll say a prayer for a full and speedy recovery. That's for the family's benefit as much as bigs. Nobody's fun to be around when they wish they were somewhere else.

Thanks to all except Gary :-laf Just kidding Gary as long as I don't have to be Ned Betty then all is good, Im not nor have I ever been an oinker :D

I'm struggling with being indoors and I have ?? many more days to go. They just gave me this laptop and trying to get my picker cleared so I can strum something besides myself. ( I hope I didn't say that) if I did I can only blame it on the drugs that I under the influence of.

Greg has been a great help getting through this time, I needed somebody with common sense. Lord knows that a one legged ? shouldn't be doing some of the things I do but like I told a Doctor that asked me about my colorful medical history. He asked why do you do some of the things you do and know that if something goes wrong your going to pay the price for it. I asked him if he is comfortable with sitting on the porch watching the parade go by and wondering what it would be like to take part in some of those activities? he asked if Death ever entered into the decision ? YES!! of course but it comes to Every living thing, I'd much rather go out knowing what the risk is, rather than sitting on that porch watching the parade go by wondering what it was that would Eventually take my life without taking any risk's. He still didn't have a clue what I was thinking, and right now I kind of wish I'd sat on the porch on this one :)

What's done is done, I just hope that this all goes well. I don't really need to put Penny and Family through anymore BS than I already have. I wont be doing anything strenuous for awhile so Penny & I have decided that travel isn't to strenuous, we are going to take the Bus and put her car in the trailer and do some roaming when I can be gone from the hospital for awhile without having to return for visits often. * Watch out for a BIGNASTY near you * don't know anything yet just want to get this over with and do some re-hab. Taking care of Bodily functions in a bowl that looks strangely like a Sailors hat is terrible, the sponge bath was not all that fun either.

BIG

Good to hear you are in good spirits, keep up the fight and best wishes for your full recovery and the up coming escape from the Big House.

Dave

The Bignasty and Penny tour bus coming soon to a venue nearby. Can't wait to see that schedule. This hunting season sounds like it will be stories and pics but wait till 2016 look out, here he comes!

Getting a sponge bath, please no video on YouTube.

Glad to hear your tapping on the keys. BTW here's part of the story on the banjo picker on the porch.

WILD!!! absolutely WILD!!!

Monday at 2AM get all the jokes in, I might not be in such a good mood after that :-laf

You beat me by about 8 feet, but that extra distance adds up to more velocity and a good deal more energy. Ladder gave out on me some months ago; I honestly don't remember if it was earlier this year, or earlier last year. Pushed the ladder away, pulled my right arm in to tuck-n-roll; left hand held the idling chain saw away (didn't want to land on it). Prolly broke the bottom-right rib where my arm was, and almost split my upper lip through. Was trying to gasp for air for good minute or two before I could breathe again. Needed a little bit of anti-spasm drug for a day or three; one of those muscles or tendons by that rib would aperiodically fully contract. Washed the lip, put antiseptic on it and taped it shut. 6-8 weeks later I was mostly healed (rib still does weird things once in a while). I think I got the better deal.

[For amateur physicists who are curious: a 12 foot fall is just under 28 ft/s, about 2800 joules at impact for my 170#. 20 foot is just under 36 ft/s, about 5400 joules (if Big weighs 200#); Big hit with almost twice the energy. Visit the Splat Calculator to play with various what-if numbers.]

Prithee heal well, Gail.

Bet that hospital food will drive you out of there faster than the nasty bugs that roam around those places. Get well. I'll have a beer for you, maybe more.
