Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Pricing for new gears

I'm wanting to upgrade my current 3. 54 gears up to 4. 10's mainly for all the towing I do with the truck. I called a local place today and the guy told me for all the internal parts I need to swap out gears it will run me about a $1000. This is just for the parts, I still have to have them installed. For anyone who has done this, does this seem high or are gears really this much for my truck? Wasn't sure of other places I could check (internet) to price compare. The guy asked me for the tag info off the axle's to make sure he got me the correct pricing. Any help would be appreciated.

Last winter I rebuilt a D-70 in a '98 Dodge, the parts invoice was $906 and included the rebuild kit for the limited slip. I recommend genuine Dana parts.

Unfortunately yes... that does sound reasonable for the parts considering two axles.



Several years ago I had the rear axle on my 2WD truck converted from 3. 54:1 to 4. 10:1 using genuine Dana parts at Randy's Ring & Pinion in Everett, WA. The total with labor and tax was well over $1500 (going from memory). That included all new bearings and rebuilding the limited-slip clutch pack.



BTW, it's one of the best upgrades you can do for towing.

I've got 4. 10's and want to go to 3. 54... . LOL. I was told easiest way was to get a different rear axle assembly with the higher gearing and swap it, then swap the gears in the front axle.

Had that thought but I bet the logistics probably rule it out. I'm in PA.

I found a set of 3. 54 axles in the Buffalo Craigslist last night 500$ for the pair. they were from the 2500. Dana 60-70.

I paid 3200. 00

1) 2 sets of 4. 10 rp's
2) new limited slip carrier in rear
3) new carrier with spiders in front
4) all new gears
5) they were able to save the rear housing after the bearing race spun and messed up the housing.
