Propane Bottles

I'm still working on this problem, to no avail so far.

I just got off the phone with my local hardware store and their prices are: 20# $32. 49, and the 30# bottles are $53. 99. Then I called Home Depot. Their prices are: 20# $22. 90, and 30# $44. l94. If you don't have a Home Depot in your area, try any home imporvement store. They will typically have them back with the BBQ stuff.

I know this wont help you boys down south, but if you live close to Canada just run across the border and get your old bottles filled up there. They don't have this stuped law. Yet!

And this might be something for the ones that live close to our southern border to think about too.

What i am planning on doing is changing the valves myself. A friend and I will build a tool to unscrew the old valves and then using rector seal ,screw in the new ones. Th e problem is find ing a source for the new valves. the local rip off propane dealer wont just sell the valves. I"m working on it. The certification is a joke. It is only visual with a little liquid soap to check for leaks. I have a set of metal stamps so I can put any date I want on the btl

I just read in the Wal Mart ad that they would exchange tanks with a $4. 00 extra charge if you have the old style tanks. But I bet that doesnt include RV size tanks but might help guys with the smaller ones.

If you look around you can find cheap places to update your tanks. My dad found a place down in the Fraiser MI area that I had my tanks converted over to the OPD valves, recertified and then filled for under $40. For anyone here in Michigan here's the name of the place and the costs:



19. 95 to convert a 30 lb. tank.

$ 5. 00 inspection fee if needed (determined by age of tank)

$ 12. 75 to fill tank.

My understanding as to why this stupid law was inacted was because of the propane BBQ industry. They sold BBQs with an extra tank stored underneath the burners. When the BBQ was lit the heat made the propane in the stored bottle expand and vent right under the lited burners. More then a few people had full propane tanks explode while cooking dinner.

And here I've been telling my self that I really should put that cylinder in the holder, under the grill, where it belongs. I guess my lazyness is good at times. Does that mean it's OK for me to leave the covers off of my computer now?

The cover is there to keep you from spilling stuff into it or falling asleep and accidentally getting a hand in the innards during one of the long nights at the keyboard. Other than that they arejust aggravation to have to deal with when upgrading. You know, it's kind of hard to type and eat fried chicken at the same time... ...

Phoenix area propane dealers?

Anybody know a propane supplier in the Phoenix area that will retrofit a 30 pound tank and not rip me off?
