Proper Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) For Calibration?

Can someone PLEASE give me the proper steps that need to be followed to calibrate a "New" Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS)? I have a 2003 and it is mounted on the top of the engine.



I broke down and bought one. Mine has been throwing codes for awhile, and I just can't ignore it anymore.

According to the Dodge Factory Service Manual, 2003 DODGE FACTORY SERVICE CD-Dodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage, the procedure for the early model 2003 Dodge (APPS assembly located at the top-left-front of the engine) is, "(11) Turn key to ON position. Without starting engine, slowly press throttle pedal to floor and then slowly release. This step must be done (one time) to insure accelerator pedal position sensor calibration has been learned by ECM. If not done, possible DTC's may be set. (12) Use BRB III scan tool to erase any DTC's from ECM. "

2003 2500 w / CTD and automatic.
I'm gonna try this fix, too.

Weird, thought that method only worked for the 2nd gen trucks. The APPS constantly resets itself on the 3rd gen.

No, no luck at all :{... . LOL. How ironic, I started this thread back in 2008 last time I had an APPS problem. Now I have another problem and it appears soneone else does too. I am ging to do what we talked about on the phone tomorrow..... Keep our fingers crossed for some good luck , and I will let you know the out come.

I'm pretty much getting frustrated, too.
I did the reset stuff with mine which is not new.
It worked great for about 60 miles.
Then when I set the cruise control while traveling at 68mph, it worked for about 5 miles.
Then went back to bucking, lurching, power surging (which would be cool if I was into rocket rides) and the worst was a complete loss of power.
Engine went down to idle and transmission "disconnected".
Funny thing, though... ... . when I stopped and put the trans into park, I had no problem with feathering the pedal and increasing RPM's.

I'm thinking APPS

Any other suggestions

Thanks, navydood for the advice and clicky link. I emailed Tim the other day and he got right back to me with the answers, so I ordered the new APPS.

I will hopefully get it installed this week and update everyone as to the effectiveness of curing my problem.

Now, I just hope it'll get me the 75 miles I need to get back home tomorrow morning!

Wednesday of this week I got my new APPS from tim @ Home

What a treat and relief! I followed his instructions and it works great.

It cleared up not only the APPS issue talked of previously, but also resolved the cruise control surging.
