Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Lost all gears in Auto Trans

I was thinking today, and what is the real advantage to buying a whole performance tranmsission rather than just a valve body and performance torque converter, both for high hp applications of course, i know the gears would be a little stronger, but for running something less than twins if my transmission still shifts and drives fine, can i get away with that, i'm not going to go into brands, because i knwo the arguements there, i'm leaning towards dtt, only because i've heard more, but there site seems to not want to work right now, but what would my outcome be if i just did the vb and tc, like a triple lock,

and, the lock controller, how does this work, and what are the advantages, and do u need it? or is it one of those things thats neat to have, any comments will be thanked, thanks a lot

Aaron

With ATS you can get just the TripleLok TC and Valve Body, and be just fine if your trans is relatively low-mileage. The installation will actually make your trans last longer than stock if you don't have a high H. P. truck, and don't tow heavy.

If you are running a lot of H. P. or if you're towing heavy and often, it's best to go ahead and go with the entire Stage IV or Stage V package.

I do have the TripleLok Commander and it does come in handy. I use it a lot when I use my exhaust brake, and when I first got my ATS I just had to wipe out a few F-150's and Excursions, and I locked it up when I street-raced. That was FUN... but bad of me... I know, but I couldn't help it!

I would go with ATS again in a heartbeat, and since I have an exhaust brake it just made sense to get the Commander. I got my trans first and then added the Commander a little while later.

DTT

DTT has been updating their site. That may be why the problem.

Give them a call at 1-866-504-4002.

Depending on miles and intended use and engine mods you may be OK with just converter and valve body.

Check with Bill or Stephan at DTT or email me your number and I'll give you a call and see if I can help.

the site is up now, but it doesn't have prices for whole trannies, just valve bodies and tc's do they only have one kind of tc or is there different staged ones, I'm probably going to end with a litle over 400hp to the wheels thats my goal for now, i'm sure i'll want more at that time, but well see, what do you think i should get and prices would be nice haha pm me probably easier, anyways off to work later

This has been asked so many times. For a high HP scenario, a TC and VB alone is not the answer. Build a transmission for the intended use.

Call DTT directly, toll free 1-866-504-4002, I posted the number as I saw your response to their website issue. They did have some site issues, I'm aware, as I have the same hosting and the same site issues.

TC & VB

I replaced my VB & TC at 18,000 miles when the TC was starting to shudder when towing with mild throttle pressure. The DTT TC & VB with update kit took that away but the damage was already done as at 50,000 miles the bands are showing significant wear and the driveability symtoms of a worn out trany. Remove and replace it once and be done. Looks like your running about the same power as me so results should be similar. DW
