PSM cold air intake system

I would like to find a way to clean up the look of the intake tube at the area where the fog light was. Any suggestions?

How about getting an oem bumper insert from a truck that had no fogs?? Its a plastic grille.

That is a great idea - in fact I checked on that yesterday and they were nearly $50. 00 for that piece of plastic! I may still go that route although I'd like to find one at junk yard or something.

Dave Smith Motors in Idaho regularly installs foglights on ST worktrucks at their store. You might contact the service /accessory dept. and ask if they've got some inserts lying around. They're real helpful and do a high volume. Dodge Parts Online Parts & Accessories Catalog is a discount Dodge parts dealer also. Approx. 35% off.

or try a wrecked truck at a salvage yard, they just snap in.

I believe they only snap in if you have a chrome bumper. Mine is the painted plastic (Laramie) bumper which has the shape of the insert already molded in. I might be able to trim the trim ring a bit... ... which is why I'd prefer not to experiment with a $50. 00 part. The salvage yard find would be ideal!

I see, I think all sport & laramies with that painted front came with fogs so that grille is not going to work.

Maybe you could mod a grille cover from a Hella FF200 and put it between the bumper cover and hose inlet, I think they are 5"x5. 5"

Yes, part number is H94259001 and can be ordered here. Its not shown on their site but they can get any Hella stuff so its just a ph call. Don't know what they cost and you would probably have to buy a pair.

With either a PSM kit or the DIY approach, does the fenderwall port remain open, or is it somehow blocked off in order to draw 100% from the new bottom-entry tube?

Fender port remains open, at least with the DIY method--no reason to block it off as it too pulls cool air from outside of the engine compartment. I ampPretty sure that the PMS does the same, as it would mostly defeat the purpose of allowing more airflow to close off the oem airflow.

Thanks! I have never been happy with the fit if the flange through the fenderwell opening, in fact I have found it popped out and drawing partial underhood air at times. I need to find a way to keep it in. I guess when I take the air box out to cut the hose port, perhaps I can find some slop in order to slide it tighter to the fender.

Yeah, mine is loose and sloppy too. I've got an extra airbox from someone here and am going to go the DIY method, using woodshop fittings like someone also at TDR suggested, and also find a way to fit the airbox to the fender a little more tightly. Don't know yet when I am going to get around to it... . I am WAY behind on the mods on my truck due to work and my own remodel. :{ oh well :-laf all in good time. Let us know what you do, though.

I bought the PSM Cold Air kit from Pete this past early spring and love it. The install was easy and straight forward. I didn't really notice any seat of the pants power increase or EGT drop but for me it is the piece of mind that I have done something that to me makes perfect sense. I seal my carb on the drag car to the hood scoop so all air coming in is from the scoop and not under hood so it would stand to reason the same for my diesel.



I want to add I over analyze things and I would say I harrassed Pete prior to me order. I called him twice on my order and both times he took all the time needed to alieve my worries and with that I bought the PSM Cold Air with confidence and never thought about it again. His customer service to me was outstanding. I also have the Cool Blue Tube installed and LOVE the whistle sans silencer ring!!! Just my . 02

PMS? That would be hard to market!!! Pete's PSM system is simple and very effective, I ran it on my 05 for 2 years and loved it. I kept pulling it off to try the other more expensive aftermarket intakes that we sell but kept coming back to the PSM. It was much quieter and easily as effective.

I really like the PSM, it is a simple intake, makes alot of sense, and with the Cool Blue Hose, pulls air very well, and really assists with EGT's. My truck runs very cool when pulling my 5th wheel, and I really can't see any reason to switch. I do run the Amsoil Eaa, but I would just as easily switch to the stock filter, knowing that it works well also. I think the 6. 7 filters are larger with more surface area and look like they would fit in our boxes also. Scotty

You are right that the 6. 7L filter has more surface area and flows better but the lower housing required a slight redesign to allow the deeper pleats to drop in. There is interference between the deeper pleats and the 5. 9L lower housing. Unfortunately, the 5. 9L lower can't just be replaced by the 6. 7L housing because the upper to lower hinge got flipped to the other side when the upper housing was also redesigned for the 6. 7L.

The PSM kit is the best set up IMO. You retain the Stock Box that has been proven to be the best way to go. I use the AFE PG7 and yes it did bring in more turbo sound into the cab. I had used the Turbo air guide in the past but took it out (Why I can't remember) but I put it back in and it almost brought the sound back to stock. There has been alot of write ups on it and I'm glad I bought it. From lower EGTs to quicker spool up it is well worth the money. That's my 2

On my '01, the tube going to the fender was sloppy just like everyone else's seems to be. I used some small phillips head sheetmetal screws to hold the flange to the airbox. I'm really not concerned with the loose fit through the fender. I just don't want the tube to fall out.
