Competition Finally..........

Anyone on here have a PTO Winch on their CTD?? I have been toying with the idea of getting one for the 1 ton, but the only concern I have is how it will mount on my front end replacement bumper, and whether or not it will actually rip the whole front bumper off under a decent pull. . I have no interest for an electric winch, so that's out of the question. .

Warn Makes a hydraulic winch that mounts like any other electric winch. then you get a PTO hydraulic pump and plumb it up to the winch... The winch will be as strong as yur mount. . if your bumper has strong brackets, then it should be good, otherwise I'd advise fabbing up some good brackets to the frame so it can pull 15K without ripping the winch off. I've seen 3/8" thick brackets on those off-road bumpers which are made for it...

In my experience the only thing those mile parkers are good for is sending your PS pump to an early grave.

I have the warn 15K hydraulics on the front and back of my unimog and they work wonderfully. A PTO winch is both somewhat impractical for self recovery and would be very difficult to engineer on a dodge. You could run a separate hydraulic pump direct of the engine using the serpentine belt or the transmission PTO like eric says. Personally I've gotten used to an engine mounted one like the unimog because you can run the winch totally independent of the transmission. Remember your clutch will have to be out for the winch to work with the PTO driven pump. This may or may not be a hinderance to self recovery. Regardless of which route you go you will never want to bother with the toy electric winches again.
