Should we, as a "modern" civilized society perform public executions? Would the deterent factor be worth the "barbaric" nature of such justice?

In the middle of the town square, and sell tickets to it. I also think stoning should be brought back. We should also make hard on them by shaming them. Put stripes on them, Make chain gangs, build roads, plow fields, pay back the community.

I guess the first thing we would need to do would be to do away with the ACLU and the Liberal politicians.

IMO if we started on those who kidnap and kill young children, it may gain a little more acceptance. Almost every day there is a new kidnapping in the headlines.

Jails are made to "reform" criminals.

The vast majority of the prison population is repeat offenders. This tells you how well they reform.

If just the repeat offenders can be stopped, this would be a great idea.

In only the most gruesome crimes, do I think this would be a good idea.

Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacey, Charley Manson... ... . and all the others that truely cannot ever be reformed.

Actually, jails and prisons are not designed to reform criminals. When a person is sent to jail/prison it is either for punishment or most often, to remove them from society so they cannot continue with their criminality. I get people all the time who tell me that sending them to prison is not going to help them. My response to them is, "You're right, it's most likely not going to help you, but it will remove you from this community and make sure that you are not continuing to commit crimes here. "

You can't change those who do not want to change. But, that doesn't mean we have to put up with their actions.

Yes.

Treat it like when the Pres. speaks and put it on all the national channels.

Maybe it'll help a few people to think a little about what they do in life if they see what can come of their actions. If not, then at least we (society) don't have to support these convicted criminals for however many years until they either die or are released, nor do we have to be concerned with any repeat offenders.

My way of public executions is quite bizzar:

Take 6x6x12' beams, fasten four of them into a square (insert braces into the corners), attach two more straight upright (with braces), and one across the top (with braces). Drill a hole in the center of the top cross beam and insert a very large eyebolt. Tie a rope to the eyebolt. I also want two 2x12 planks dowelled and braced together to make a 24" wide plank with special "fit-all" shoes fastened to the plank. Let the condemned know that one year from today, all of their appeals will be completed. On that day, take a doctor into their cell to perform minor surgury - sever their vocal cords (I don't want to hear their screaming and cursing). 30 days later (after the incision has healed), send in a team of sheriffs with a fireman's "body" board. Put the shackle belt on the prisoner, shackle his wrists and ankles to the belt and strap him down on the body board and carry him out to the gallows. Stand him up, insert his feet into the shoes, slip the rope over his head and around his neck. Remove the "body" board.

Under the 24" wide planks are blocks of ice. The ice slowly melts from under him slowly making the rope tighter and tighter around his throat. He can't scream, yell, curse - only stand there knowing he's slowly choking to death.

This must be performed in the city center park in full view of everyone.

This would be for those convicted of any henious crime!

That's my way... ... ... ... .

Most Definitely

There should be a public square hangings ... like the ones you see in Clint's and John Wayne's westerns.

Who ever in town can come down ... sing hyms ... ofer prays to the Lord ... then pull the rope on the trap door.

We should also bring back the old town square stocks for lesser offenses. A week in the stocks for theft or what ever, you just sit there with your head, feed, and hands locked in the wood ... ******* and crapping yourself all week long ... with people and kids throwing stuff at you. :D

I don't think we should execute anyone that is not guilty :) . If they are guilty than they should be executed in the same way that they committed the crime. It should be video taped and shown to all prisoners and any young delinquents as a deterrent.

Yes... ... ... ..... most definately... ... ... ... . public, and painful.

But, as you all know, some ACLU weiner would try to put a stop to it, bla bla bla... ... ... ... .

VERY GOOD POINT! This would seem to get public acceptance as all have a spot in their heart for our children.

Damned right we should execute the sorry lot of them. Were wasitng way too much money on providing them 3 squares a day and cable tv. Bring back the rock yards for the lesser offences, make them manually build roads one shovel at a time, clean out bar ditches... . and for those heinous crimes and repeat offenders... your dead, plain and simple. I prefer draw and quartering, it's messy, but gets the point across.

Morph.

Yes!

Also, once someone is sentenced, that sentence to be carried out within one year. (or less) No more of this crap of appeals that drag on and on. Thats a waste of money. If there is an appeal that appears to have merit, then it is handled as a special case.

my thoughts:

1. The problem with crime is that there seems to be no recourse for someones' actions.

2. If you are found guilty, beyond a more than reasonable doubt, by the judge. then you are shot in the head immediately after the guilty verdict. No retrials, ect.

I think that that would put the fear of god into any wanna be criminal.
