Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Puke bottle filling too fast

2001 with a puke bottle filling too fast, like every 5000mi OCI, and would appreciate knowing the usual causes of this.

Perhaps a seasonal thing - colder temps = more condensation? Do you do lots of short runs that create more condensation?

I live out in the sticks and nearly all my driving includes at least 30 miles of highway.

I'm going to empty it again today and try to figure it out, along with routing it away from the front. Maybe try the sock-bottle trick.

What a mess it causes. Worst case I'll get a bigger catch can.

Main thing is that it seems like its producing way too much.

YUP - I do the "sock bit" myself - easy cleanup, and keeps radiator, front of engine, and everything under the truck completely oil free:

ON the other hand, 450K miles is starting to get "up there" and blowby might be getting to be an issue...

I pulled my bottle out a few months ago just after I got my truck last summer. All I did was run some garden hose to just under the frame. Works fine for me.

Put this on a few years ago--I got tired of all the mess-emptys quick and easy- capcomes off at every oil change for cleaning--

you might check your vacum lines. Yhe vacum pump discharges into the crankcase.
If a line is broke it will pump alot more air into the crankcase wich then goes out through the puke bottle.

Mark, I have never seen one of those, looks like a good product. I, like a lot of other guys just extended my hose, but I have to wipe up the drip when it hits my shop floor, looks embarassing when I have somebody up and there are oil drips dotted everywhere

I prefer my Fleetguard Enviroguard Kit, but review this modification:

Second the vacuum pump. If you have vacuum leaks,the vacuum pump basically turns into an air pump pumping air right into the crankcase... and it can move a surprising volume. Also, make sure you are not overfilling with engine oil.

Mikes vent is a very practical and cheap mod and the best part is its maintenance free.

Volsfan I looked in the new summit catalog-and didn't find it but the product is made by STEF'S Fabrication Specialtys Lakewood Nj 732/367-8700 aprox 7"long 3" dia -very well built--No longer have any drips etc to clean up--I made the brackets
