Pulled fuel screw = no start

Pulled fuel screw to remove the metal band. Fair amount of fuel ran out screw hole, normal ?? Replaced screw ( marked ) with 3/4 turn in from stock. Won't start, bled lines 3 times, also loosened fuel line to inj pump, an hand pumped lift pump. Shut off solenoid is getting power. What am i missing ? This is my daily driver.

I would say, IMHO, that you have a fuel leak? When the screw is pulled there is almost zero fuel removed from the pump. I have performed this a umber of times and that is how it works. Also, if you'd pull the timing pin (bolt) it operates in the same manner, no fuel leaks out.



You'd have to have air enter the pump to allow the fuel to weep out of the hole where the screw would have been.



You simply need to bleed the pump of air (operate the primer lever many times) and bleed the injection lines, again.



I just completed an install yesterday of a dry pump and it took very little bleeding of the pump and injection lines to start and run smooth as silk.

Friend stopped by an we got it to start an run on WD40, wouldn't idle or start without help. I cranked screw in couple more turns an it starts instantly now, may have more power ? Test drove with empty trailer on level ground.

I suspect a weak pump, but hate to practise on my main driver. Any deals on line for the rebuild parts ?

The fuel lines coming off the pump next to the block look like a bear to get at. Any trick to it ? thanks, Bill

man, I know the feeling of messing w/ your daily... I use mine for work... averaging ~350 miles a day lately, and two weeks ago, I was fishing a small lockwasher out of the #3 intake bowl! (don't ask)

Pulled screw out again ( no fuel ran out this time ) an carefully ground all of the metal band off. Reinstalled screw ( not sure how many turns past stock now ) but WOW ! Idles faster, sounds healthier, an hauls 3000# empty trailer like it wasn't there. Now that turbo whines over a wider range ( smile ).

The "graydog" is no longer, runs like the black one now !

Now the downside, more likely to get speeding tickets, an need a different vehicle for our Friday night beer social at Ford guys house. He can't resist knocking the Dodge, an i couldn't resist Smoking him out when I left !
