Trailer north or south on Right Coast?

I will be in the market for a fifth wheel hitch in the near future and I would like some feedback on the Pullrite sliding hitch. Also, if you could post or PM me with a rough figure on $$$$ involved for purchase and install that would be super.

IF YOU HAVE YOUR MIND MADE UP AND WONT CHANGE IT, IT WILL COST YA PLENTY. I HAVE A 98. 5 SHORT BED AND BOUGHT A REESE 15K SLIDER. I AINT NEVER USED THE SLIDE OTHER THAN ONCE AND THAT WAS TO SEE HOW IT WORKED. HAVE HAD FIVE YEARS OF USE; TEXAS 3 TIMES AND ARIZONA 2; ALWAYS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN, PARK ETC WITHOUT USING SLIDE. DO AVE A PIN BOX EXTENSION (ORIG EQPT WITH HOLIDAY RAMBLER 32 FT TRLR) SO IF YA STILL WANT TO BUY IT, 12 TO 1400 IS WHAT IT WILL SET YA BACK

I was going to buy a slider when we buy our 5th wheel in the spring because we were told with the short box we would need it, but if it is unnecessary we can spend the money on fun stuff. I will be reading to see if others chime in with no need to buy as well. Thanks for the info, saving money again by reading the posts here.

slider

Rosco, I just talked to a fellow and he showed me his new Pullrite slider at the Fryburge fair in Maine. It is pricie at $3,000 installed but if you forgot to slide and had a problem $3,000 would not repair truck and trailer. It is a real nice unit and well made. I just installed a 20. 5k fixed unit in my 3500 and like it so far. The designer of the slider is a sharp guy or girl. A lot of people tell me they do not have to slide but their will be that one time that gets someone in trouble. Good luck with your decision. Rob

$3K seems pretty steep. I got mine for $1600 - 16K model. With my camper I would be hitting the cab on tight turns without the slide.

The new '03 is my 4th SWB pickup. I've had a Reese 16K Classic hitch in the previous 3 trucks, including my '01 Ram 2500. In the first two trucks, the hitch was mounted directly over the axle. In the '01, the hitch was behind the axles by 4"-6". My trailer's have had extended pin boxes and I have not had a problem to date... however I've gotten close to hitting the trailer a time or too.

The bed in the '03 is shorter than the '01... I decided to go with a sliding hitch as 1) I wanted the hitch over the axles and 2) for insurance (it's OK with me if I never have to use it... but it's there if I need it).
