I have a light out in the over head console/compass area. The ones that push on and off. How do I get that thing apart and what bulb needed? Anyone have this issue with any feed back would help!!

It's not necessary to pull the console to change the bulb. To gain access to the bulb you can remove the lens that is pushed to turn on the lamp. The lens is held in place with a latch tab at the center of its curved, outboard end & two pivot tabs on the inboard edge.

A small knife blade point can be inserted between the lens end and console housing. Carefull prying down of the lens should allow you to see the latch tab.

Once the latch tab is released pull firmly on the lens toward the outboard side of the vehicle to disengage the two pivot tabs on the inboard edge of the lens

With the lens removed it should be easy to remove and replace the bulb.

You do have to remove the console to fix this- I just fixed it on mine. You have to order a new set of switches from a dealer (~$36) and they will slide out to the sides. To remove the console flip down your garage door opener holder and squeeze the clips in the roof. Then slide the whole console forward to detach it from the roof. When I bought my truck the springs were missing from the light switches (how that happened I have no idea) but they are just like a click pen. It's an easy fix.

If you need to just replace the bulb Thomas is right. Anything else and Jong is right. Depends on what your problem is.

Jong did you have to replace the whole harness or just the switches? Service Manual says whole harness for bad switch.

Yeah, my bad!!! I didn't read the whole thing, but if the lights are out and its not the bulb, you have to replace the whole harness as I did. It only took me ten minutes once I had the harness.

FYI... The knife/pry trick worked perfectly. I touched the unlit bulb with my fingers and it lit up. This bulb worked itself lose and I pushed it back into place. Seems to be fine. If this continues to come lose I will replace it or figure out a way to get it to stay put. Thanks for the info, it was just what I needed!!

I am so glad to see this topic... the actual switch on my passengers side overhead light went out on me almost 2 years ago, and I haven't done anyting about it yet... I will have to get a new harness/switch and give this a try.
